Yep. 3.73s for the v6 trucks prerunner or 4wd. Exception is xrunners that get 3.15s

So with adding 285’s would the consensus be leave the gears as is or change them to compensate for the power lost with the bigger tires added. And if so what would it be...4:11’s for 285’s.........4:56’s aren’t needed until you hit 35’s or if you tow correct?

I am running 34” tires which are 285/75/17 on stock gears. Truck still has plenty of power, and I can still shread the tires in 1st. The supercharger really helps get them up to speed. I would like to regear for offroading but I would like a 4.3 gear ratio so it doesnt kill highway mpg.

    And this came in today.

My projects for tomorrow are ready and all set to go.

I am not sure if I want to install the small idler though for the double wrap mod. I do not know the max RPM limits on it, as it is a cam follower yoke type bearing, it seems like it would be fine, but there are no given limits on what speeds it can handle.

The unit is a Smith YR-1-1/4-X

Anyone got any info on what those can take? RPM limits is what worries me, though it is considered a deep groove needle bearing design.

With 285s and the s/c a regear isnt really necessary. Its a game of give and take with gears.. theyre expensive so you really want to only change them once, which forces you to look at your long term plans for the truck. If you ever plan to do 35s down the road, 4.56s would probably be the best balance of more torque, but decent hwy RPMs/gas mileage. I do believe that 4.10s would get you back pretty close to stock with the 285s. Probably not worth the cost to just jump up from 3.73s to 4.10s. With larger tires, i would want to jump up to 4.56s or 4.30s at the very least just because of how expensive regearing is. Not sure if they even make 4.30s for the gen 2 trucks though.

Is there a way to find a different pulley with the same bearing with info and recalculate for difference in size for rpm?

If youre seriously considering gears, check this site out, great resource that you plug in all the gear ratios for your trans, your current diff gearing, and what you want to change to. Gives you a very accurate idea as to what rpms youll be turning at different speeds.

In the near future I was thinking of regearing to 4.10/4.11 as I know 33" is as big as I like to go. I was reluctantly happy with the 32" but ever since BFG decided to make the ko2's in a load range C for a 17" wheel I was sold in stepping back up a size again..Finally a nice A/T 33" tire in a C!

That's the thing. I'm not sure what type of RPM these idlers see on our blower. I know internally they see 5 digits xx,xxx but externally do they just go to 5,500rpm along with the engine RPM or are they spinning way quicker? That's what I am not sure of.

Its hard to find a bigger a/t in a lighter load rating nowadays. Everything has gotten heavyy, which is a power killer.

Im perfectly content with my p-rated stock sized tires. Thats part of the reason i lowered my truck. I can buy everyones take offs for cheap thats going up in size and the truck has gobs of power:)

Looks great! Let us know if you notice any difference in throttle response at all.

My basic math says it would spin 30% faster than a 2" pulley. I would think it would be fine.

Are you saying the bearing I posted would fit the bill just fine for the intended use?

I'm honestly guessing. But I would give it a go. Its designed to work in these applications.

That's what I was thinking too, but there is that bit of doubt in me that tells me that I shouldn't do it.

I guess the worse that can happen is I can shred the bearing, but I'll know it is on it's way out long before it gives out on me.

That's a really beautiful crank pulley. Tonight I was collecting data for Scott to look at, and I was thinking I don't need to bother with the lightweight pulley... 1st and 2nd might already be scary enough for me. When I took off in 1st the computer on my buddy's lap flew up and hit him in the face.

When it comes to your idler max RPM... just think of me, I'm running timing belt idlers I found at the scrap yard, and probably making them go four times as fast as they were supposed to when they were part of the donor car's timing belt. If I can do it, so can you.

    Okay, that's a fair statement.

Consider this test preliminary for a suitable double wrap mod for everyone else minus you.

If this fares out well for me after a few thousand miles of legitimate abuse without blowing out the bearing I will give the green light to anyone else who would like to run a double wrap mod.
