interesting. It also looks like the point under the mount was suspended and not welded there?

i grew up in Wyo and live in MT now. MT is different in a way. Bozeman is a hot spot for people to move too. Locals call it Bozangles..Most the Californians that move here though tend to not stay after a winter or two. Or they have enough money they only live here in the summer.

Natural resources has been the cornerstone of MT/Wy economy for decades. Thats started to fail and has had major impacts around the states. But being the hardcore republican states we are, the old folks won't change ways or at least don't want too. ID on the other hand invested a few decades ago correctly and is booming. Might look at Boise too.

Anyways, not a lot in terms of supply chain stuff, few small companies though. Plenty of shipping/trucking operations around though. Manufactures are eyeing Wyo more and more due to low taxes and cheap living costs and relatively cheap land. Lots of gun companies have moved to Wyo after a few states clamped down on regulations(CO).

Either way, be ready for long cold winters. Small town life. No major chains of anything generally. No next day air most the time. But the trade off is no traffic, good neighbors, and amazing country you could spend the rest of your life exploring and never see it all.

You're wife could find work just about anywhere up here. Lots of farming/ranching and just animals in general.

Yeah, it's welded right up to the point where it starts into that "ear" up to the bolt, so not directly under the bolt. Other side below.

Must have been broken the entire last trip, probably happened sometime on Re-Tour.

    IMG_20181101_120736.jpg

Could be the heat from the weld I guess, but I'd think that Eric is more experienced than that. Not continuous either, but given the location of the break, I don't know that continuous would have been any different.

68 is pretty good. Hoping to get another trip in early Dec. Shoot for 75!

IMO - if that's how I would have mounted my mid skid, it would have broke on trail #1.

There's some holes in the transmission crossmember you can use. Drill 2 holes in your skid, use a carriage bolt all the way through with a big washer on top. Works fine.

Ooo, I like that idea! Probably easier to attach as well - it's been a royal pain trying to get these onto their respective crossmember bolts each time I install the skid. Will just need to figure a way to square up the hole so the carriage bolt wont spin.

A few minutes with a good file should cut through that mild steel pretty easily.

Yep, just drill a hole then use a chain saw file to square it out. Takes time but works good.

You know you can get square files, right?

That being said, it doesn't have to be very precise. Just good enough to keep if from spinning.

Sure. I like the chainsaw ones better. More useable as its fine point to 3 flat edges. Can do small or bigger holes with one file.

What the hell kind of chainsaw file do you use?

I use a round file to sharpen the teeth, and a flat file to knock down the rakers.

Seems odd to not just continue the seam to me and weld under the bolt.

that may be true but certainly not that you can't fit the tip of the welder there. Looks like PLENTY of room for that.

Yes that's what i mean. I don't see the point really..

anyways. Called the guy. Told him I really want it. But don't need it. Which he totally understood(great guy btw) and said I didn't really want to insult him with a low ball offer. He said no problem and then told me his bottom dollar is 4500.

    Not bad..Not bad..

Said I'd think about it some more and let him know.

Tempted to get it and sell the SX now..probably would if it was a 5 speed. Damn you toyota and your non manual double cab ways!

I know. I might come back at him with 4k just for shits. Little surface work and it would sell for much higher. Not that that would be my plan. But its a nice truck.
