After >100 highway miles early this morning the problem is surely worse than I thought.

I am losing speed QUICKLY at WOT in 6th gear at even 70mph on the most insignificant grades. It isn’t even able to hold 75mph against wind resistance unless you are in 5th.

Fuel mileage is also an astonishingly low 11.4 (last tank average on stock tune was 17.8 on the same course).

@OVTune I want to send some logs.........

This is my biggest complaint with the truck is that it struggles to maintain speed on any real incline. If it’s truely worse than the stock tune, that’s disappointing.

Which tune are you running? 93 Otto?

93 Atkinson. I might try the 91 later and see if anything changes.

I just want to help any way I can because this sucks. Sounds like I am a lone wolf though.

    @OVTune

@MOC221_ and I are going to send you some data logs of 1.05 where we're catching some subtle stutter around 2700-3200rpm it looks like, and when at roughly 2k rpm in 4th and 5th gears, and then downshifting by 1 (to 3rd and 4th respectively), acceleration from there seems quite lacking. Normal acceleration in those gears from 2k rpm doesn't seem to be an issue, but mid-range power on downshift seems to be pretty flat until the 3500rpm benchmark (vvti actuation?). 1st and 2nd seem to be low enough gearing that it's not noticed there.

I believe @RedBeard1 has already submitted data logs of this. I am running 91FO and I believe @MOC221_ is on 91MA

I will add that the truck will pull hills on the highway in 6th quite well on this file (1.05 91 MO). This is in contrast with the earlier poster, but I think he's on the 93 MA file.

Could it be your fuel? So far i havent Experienced this. Running 1.05 93MA with Kirkland/shell 93 octane. Been able to accelerate in 5th and 6th without issue

@MOC221_ you're gonna laugh but I'm out data logging and driving spiritedly, I can't get the issues we discussed to pop up lol perhaps power is a touch flat in 3rd from 2-3k after a downshift from 4th, but idk. I finished up my 50 miles to sort of let the tune settle and I'm no longer able to replicate that subtle stutter and power delivery seems fine, although I do agree that it's probably less than what we had on previous maps in the mid range.

Will still send a log to @OVTune since any data is probably better than nothing at all, if only to see how the tune is running?

Sent you an email @OVTune (ticket #2338). Perhaps the data log will help a little

    Mostly stuff I built.
I’m on the 87 MA file.

I am still getting the lag in the 2000-3500 range. It is just a feeling that it is held back. Then the 3500 power jump right at the end of it just makes it really stand out. I am not getting the stumble that the others are getting. On mine it is most noticeable on the second gear run up.

On a good note I can finally rev the thing to red line if I want and not get any pinging.

Yeah I think I have a touch of the lag as well, but my truck seems to have figured out its life and done away with the stutter, which was subtle to begin with

Other than the lull/lag/held back feeling in that range the truck is a totally different animal. Runs stronger than my good friends first gen Tundra 4.7L.

That’s a theory. I flashed to 91 and am going to feel it on the ride back this afternoon. I generally always use shell 93.

Got it all figured out.. updated ECU then flashed with 1.05 and put on about 40 miles.. I'm no expert like some of you guys, but from what I can tell, this feels so damn smooth, linear and more guts when you demand it

Drove another 75 miles or so on the 93MA tune today. I purposely tried to stay low in the RPM band to see if i could replicate what you have experienced. In sixth gear 40mph puts you around 1200-1300 RPM. Maintaining 40mph i approached a tall drawbridge and as i got to the long incline up to the apex i went WOT. The truck smoothly accelerated from 40-65ish, up quite a moderate incline without issue. I tried several more times on level terrain, even getting as low as 37mph (FML) in 6th gear and accelerating up to 70 at WOT again without issue. I didnt really like driving like this, but the truck responded very well with smooth acceleration and no hesitation despite it taking a little while to get from 40-70. This is at sea level using about 3/4 tank of Kirkland 93 and 1/4 tank shell 93.

I sent logs to @OVTune to see if anything would help, but i can honestly say that so far my truck is running the best it's ever run. It feels like I've stripped hundreds of pounds of weight off of it. Best of luck finding whats causing the issues you're experiencing. Cheers

Love it! Glad you’re not having any issues. Thanks for trying to replicate the data point instead of just telling me I’m wrong.

I flashed to 91 MA and drove the 150 mile return trip, and it’s safe to say the driveability problem is solved. Acceleration is back to normal and far stronger than stock at all cases. Now I see why everyone was raving about 1.05!

That puts it down to crummy fuel or a problem with the 93 MA tune. (or something else?) I just really doubted the fuel being a problem since I always get 93 from name brand stations, this most recent tank from a Shell...but if I had to bet money it’s probably that considering your good experience.

I might run a few more tanks of 93 through and try it again.

Is it possible you are having a crank sensor issue or some other issue that is hampering performance regardless of tune? I know you said this didn't exist prior to your latest tune upgrade but maybe you should switch back to an older tune and see if the issue still exists.
