They should replace the 5.7 v8 with the 3.5 v6 in the new tundra no need for v8.

Absolutely NO issue with the power or transmission in my stock tune ‘17 Off Road 4x4 with added weight and 33s. This is coming from a guy that has done a ridiculous amount of racing.

If YOU have a problem with your truck’s motor / transmission, it is ONLY because you DID NOT DO your due diligence at signing and do not understand how vehicles work.

Toyota has put out the TSB to keep/make the masses happy. They do it because as an intelligent company, they know to keep the customer base happy, even if they are not necessarily correct. The more people happy, the more sales/profit for the company. Even if the profits are from snow flakes. Toyota will take the money.

“Customer is always right”... even when they are not.

Tacoma’s nitche is to be a fun, reliable, versatile, highly off road capable truck. It does this BETTER than any other midsize in the market.

Tacoma is NOT a full size, NOR a race car.

For me it's all about the throttle response and early shifting. Sure you can rev high and get the power you need but 1) that's going to destroy your MPG if you daily like that and 2) that's just not the kind of driver I am. I like linear, smooth, gradual acceleration. No tortoise, no hare, something in between.

A small dead pedal zone would have been fine however it feels like 1/2 or 2/3 dead pedal, that's a bit ridiculous.

The access to social media has made it so that you mostly hear the people that complain, kick and scream the loudest.

This is unfortunate. It makes it so that the truth is twisted and facts are skewed to fit the “victim’s mentality” narrative.

    Wrong

Toyota : this motor is new to Tacomas. It likes to be shifted higher.

Of course it will. The reason the truck shifts the way it does is to help fuel economy by avoiding the higher RPM band. If you make the engine work harder then of course you're going to see higher fuel consumption.

Every time I give it gas and it kicks out and pushes me back in the seat in that sweet rpm area I shake my head of what I read hear. It's actually quite fun and faster than 2nd Gen in that range by far. Sounds damm good too.

You'll see more of a fuel drop from driving over 70 than you will reving an extra 1000 rpm with these trucks. It's negligible.

Hey. You want a better engine tune or not (for free) it’s on you. That goes to anyone in this thread who standing tall on the original OEM tune.

I was content to just “live” with the Tacoma engine especially since I have a manual transmission. All the while Arguing with myself that it’s not a race car or that it’s just how this engine behaves.

However, after getting the new OEM tune, I can’t believe I lived with something that was so unsatisfying.

Also, my city MPG has gone up because because I can drive in lower rpm more comfortably now.

I drive a normal vehicle after the time, and I don’t have to rev high anymore, or drive with the understanding that this “is just a high rev’ing engine”.

If someone doesn’t want to deal with Toyota’s original tune, which btw won’t be on any new model going forward, then they don’t to complain online or convince themselves to “just accept it”. There is a better alternative.

Same. My last car weighed in at 2550 lbs with me in it and a full tank o' gas and it made 422 rwhp.

I have no qualms about the way my 2016 drives.

Great power to weight right there. I had a Z06 with 396rwhp. It weighted right at 3150lbs and it was one of my most fun cars. Got into a lot of trouble with that one. But even more fun was had with that car.

Look, it's not me, it's you. I am in the majority of the 750K people that currently own the 3rd gen Tacoma, meaning we like it. You are in the fractions of a percent who don't. Again, that's fine. You got yours fixed. Good. Most don't have a problem or it would be much much more prevalent online.

I wrote the OP to inform people. To teach some basic engineering and explain why something works like it does and apparently, it was well received. Me and a bunch of other people like me would write even more cool stuff to publish but instead I get stuck in a back and forth with people who "think" that their perceived problem must be widespread just because they have it. Some of you guys don't comprehend the scale here. 100 people bitch about a problem on an internet forum but forget the scale of the 750K people NOT bitching about a problem because to them, they have no problem. Tiny, but vocal, minority dude. Making mountains out of molehills, starting a tempest in a teapot. Maybe you ought to start your own thread, that way I won't click on it because I have no dog in the hunt.

    Now, go enjoy your truck.

See here we go again. Just because you have no problem with it, you think others shouldn’t either. Just like a millennial. Everyone has to be just like you right?

Let me tell ya something. I’m not an engineer. I’m not a mechanic. But I know my way around a vehicle. I also know my way around a diesel pretty damn good. You guys are absolutely delusional making everyone out to be the victim....er....complainer.
