Have a small water leak in the cabin on the floor mats Probably getting through seals. When I take it to the dealer, does this service appear on the service records for the VIN? I don't know if that will negatively affect resale.

Yes it will appear against the service records of the vin. Won’t impact resale though.

Don’t know what part? Any fix the dealer does will be recorded against the vin. A leak won’t effect trade in resale value, (if it’s fixed). and private resale would be the same, might turn off one guy and not the next, but that’s not the value of vehicle.

Well, a potential smart buyer can run the VIN. If I saw a water leak mentioned in the records easily available, I would not buy the truck.

Pretty sure the loss of the sale would be something impacting the resale value.

Pretty sure you are wrong. One sale doesn't impact value. Every time a dealer looses one sale on a used vehicle does he drop the price?

Loss of one or even a few sales will not impact value. There are a thousand and one things that can effect one buyer and not another, ( Color / Hole drilled in firewall / etc). When that "thing" effects the majority of buyers then it effects value. A Leak does not equal water damage.

Do you think that every Tacoma that's had the 3rd brake light replaced under warranty will now have a reduced trade-in value?

Wrong? I gave you a valid scenario. I’ve been shopping used trucks and a water leak would be a show stopper for me. I would not even call or go inspect the vehicle. I sure as hell would not assess mold damage, structural damage, or calculate the risk of it happening again.

You sound like one of these insurance or collision people that thinks a vehicle is good as new after a repair. Is it your job to reject diminshed value claims for an insurance company?

A seller may well not lose any value if they sell to someone that isn’t the wiser, but that does not invalidate the scenario provided which is absolutely real. As a seller you cannot measure lost sales due to a tainted carfax or comment on the service history of a vehicle. Those potential buyers evaporate.

Like I said, you can’t possibly predict that or know. I consider it a loss of value as a result.

I was offering my perspective because I’ve been through this with a couple of vehicles.

Virtually nothing impacts the resale value of Tacomas.

With Tacomas, if you don't buy it somebody right behind you will, and pay asking price. Take a look at vehicle time on the lot.

LOL. Better go tell every Tacoma owner that’s had the 3rd brake light fixed to start demanding diminished value from Toyota.

This is pointless discussion as it’s therotical.

The only reason I didn't buy another used Tacoma was because I couldn't find one pricewise that made sense. People over pay for these truck and they don't last long even private party. You should be find OP, I wouldn't worry about it, Toyota should put the fix on the Carfax as well. Plenty of things that don't show up on a Carfax that people will hide from a potential buyer. Its part of the used car gamble.

Used Tacoma's rarely make sense, price is usually too close to new.

What doesn’t make sense is saying used Tacomas are too expensive so you buy new.... which is even more expensive.

I saved $10k buying an 18mo old 2013 over a 2016 of the exact same trim and options.

Just my $0.02, but I’m also with the camp that if it is fixed, especially at the dealer, then there is nothing to worry about for resale.

So its a guarantee that any warranty work done at the dealer will be picked up by the carfax?

I would rather see a repair that's been done when I pull a vin number than pulling a vin that shows nothing. That throws up some serious red flags for me

I'm in the camp where the fix they say they did is not the actual fix they did. So now I have to go back and have them do it correctly. I'm going to have multiple repairs for the front end within the first 3k miles.

Not going to lie, if I saw repeat repairs within such a short mileage I would pass on the car.

But then again, I'm weird about my cars.
