    Define "Senior"?

I don't disagree with retesting at some point, but at what age do you start?

I've seen 30 somethings that have no business behind the wheel, let alone most of the millennial group...

That’s where the arguing begins. I’ll be fifty soon and I have peers that I simply won’t ride with because they scare the shit out of me. But my seventy year old mother who has no vision issues is as alert as I am and is still an excellent driver.

I’d say starting at 60 the requirement for testing and renewal should be halved, and at 70, halved again. After that I’d suggest a letter from ones family physician stating that they’ve seen no reason to withdraw the privilege would be required.

Yes, thank you for the correction. I considered anyone <25 in that category...

Bottom line; it should be based on ability and not necessarily age. I have a friend that is 70 now and should have started the retest regimen, at least 10 years ago.

I think males driving Volkswagens should be required to have acceleration (speed) and vector (aggressive driving) limiters. This conversation should be in the politically incorrect thread but I guess it does qualify for WTF.

Here in AZ, your license is from time you get it til you turn 65. Mine expires in 2047. They want you to update it every 10 years, but not mandatory. I read something several years ago that AZ has the most centurian drivers (over 100) in the US.

In the winter. I was stationed at Davis Monthan in Tucson, and in summer the roads were clear. In winter, look the fuck out. New York or Minnesota plates were given a wide berth. You couldn’t get in to play golf unless you got in there early or you’d be stuck behind one slow ass foursome after another.

The feed thing was they’d all be off the streets by 7 pm.

Which was when the drunks came on shift.

I'm not that old, yet. What statistics are you using to make that case?

If we're talking just accidents, then maybe someone shouldn't get a DL until they're 25. Issue a learners permit until then.

    BULL $HIT....

If we require testing it should be across all ages....

My record of 1 million plus miles without a single ticket, EVER , is due to accepting that driving is a privilege not a right...:hattip:

I am 57 and still move 70,000 to 100,000 lbs of material or equipment on any given day.....You telling me that I need to test in 3 years...……...F@#$ you...

I drive for a living and LOVE what I do.....but when someone tries to put up definitions to skew facts...… not on my watch....

You want to stop STUPID driving...look at your sources, not at ages.....Screw warnings for phones in cars, tickets worth some serious $$$ would quickly deter some of it .....get caught in a big rig and fine is automatic and points to your record.....

    OK,

Old Man off his soap box...……………….time to take Momma to DQ...……...then maybe a nap since I am OLD...:brianr:

To make the case? It’s common knowledge that people start to fall apart at a more accelerated rate when they’re old. You don’t have to have an accident to be a dangerous driver. I’ve seen seniors driving on the wrong side of the road, driving way under the speed limit, and cause accidents because they couldn’t see/know what they are doing. If they’re fit to drive, they’ll pass the test.

Likewise, it’s common knowledge that the youngester are all coked up; which goes a long way explaining why 70% of 18 - 25 year old American males are not acceptable for military service (pentagon statistics). If they are fit to serve they’ll pass the urinalysis. Getting them off the road is another story.

While living in Australia permit drivers have a large “P” placard on the front and rear of their car to let the rest know that some inexperienced boob is behind the wheel.
