If the ECU made changes based on volume efficiency I would think the VE map would need adjusting after freeing up the exhaust significantly. I'm pretty sure the ECU makes adjustment based on MAF or MAP or a combination of both, I dont actually know for sure. With MAF you probably won't need much, if any adjustment because it's making adjustments based off of air coming in and taking what the o2 sensor sees into consideration depending on the driving conditions being in open or closed loop. I may be wrong but with other platforms this is what I have found.
just hinking out loud, so take it as bs...

He's saying the ECU won't "know" the cats are gone. But it can tell when your AFR changes. The turbos come with a tune, and will certainly have a bigger impact on flow rates than the lack of a cat. A pro tune is better than an off the shelf tune, but that doesn't appear to be much of an option for these trucks, and plenty of subarus run without det from an off the shelf tune. If I remember correctly there will also be an added MAP sensor which will specifically be used to adjust for flow rates.

This engine is not used in any Toyota turbo vehicles, it has an 11.8:1 compression ratio, which makes making a reliable turbo setup very difficult. The closest engine Toyota makes to this one that has turbos is the 3.4l v35a-fts. It has lower compression (obviously) and is a different engine, with much different cylinder heads, longer stroke, narrower bore.

Putting turbos on a high compression engine is not easy, and making it reliable running on pump gas will definitely not be easy or cheap.

That is high compression for a turbo, at least based on what I know, which is admittedly not much... my knowledge basically equates to high compression+Turbo=bad
@OVTune how do you work around this ... almost 12:1 compression.

This engine that I have tuned (and am tuning for more power) has 13:1 compression and runs 10psi on pump gas and 17psi on pump + methanol.

    with tuning.

These newer engines with high compression, variable valve timing, etc have plenty of room to work. Compression is just a number.

For example the skyactiv mazda 2.0L has 13:1 compression... a K20A has less, and the K20A makes 50+ more horsepower.

Because compression is only 1 factor of many in cylinder pressure

@OVTune , are you planning on using a manual boost controller or is there a way to incorporate an electric one like a 3-4 port EBCS without running a stand alone ecu?

You do not have to have a standalone ECU to use an electronic boost controller. I had a Blitz EBC in my Twin Turbo Z32 and used a socketed/chipped ECU.

There is a big difference with this. Your 300Z came stock with EBCS which is controlled by the stock ECU. Our Tacoma ECU's were never meant to have an EBC output unless there is some random I/O on the ECU that can be configured to run this.

No, my 300Z came with an NA engine in it. We swapped in a TT engine and had a decision to make as far as ECU goes. We used a stock ecu that was socketed. Put the tunes on a chip and insert them in the ECU. Then controlled the boost with a Blitz EBC.
