Just saw this in the owners manual and thought I'd share a photo of it. It's on page 9 of the 2018 Tacoma manual.

Joke's on Toyota... I hacked the system and replaced all their data with my social security number and the name of my first pet. What a bunch of rubes!

    Haha yes.

I imagine this has to do with either protection them from a lawsuit or more likely, making a better vehicle. E.g. crash videos to train the next gen collision avoidance. Aside from that, how would the transmission happen? Are they using the Bluetooth connection to you phone or is there a secondary path built into the vehicle?

All vehicles made world wide for a decade or more, have this sophisticated computer. Very common and well known, especially by those involved in an accident blaming it on a defective vehicle. It simply PMA. NTSA and Insurance companies also benefit. Always tell the truth and be careful!

    Hmm .....

This just goes along with what I've been thinking all along.

I started on thread on why/how MyCarfax.com know how many miles my car has traveled. It's pretty accurate and the updates are pretty quick. It was suggested that MyCarfax uses an algorithm of some sort ... nope, it's way too accurate.

Tin foil wrap sounds sick; alien protection, protection from Toyota spies and looking super bling. Win win win

Who cares. If you have a smart phone 99% of your apps are gathering data on you. If you don't want any data going to companies ditch your phone, disconnect from the internet and live in a cabin 24/7 up in the mountains.

It's all federal Toyota has to do it as all manufactures have too it is stuff like crash data it does not transmit data it is in the ECU in non volatile memory has to be retrieved from the vehicle. Has been in effect for years.

When a plane crashes they retrieve a black box. Sure as heck wanted to know why that one crashed before I fly

Exactly. Has to be downloaded. Your phone makes the Entune work.
Look if someone wants to know about you, they can learn more about you than your wife. They can find:
    Your favorite foods
    Your favorite color
    Favorite vacation spots
    Your favorite watch
    Your bank records
    Your SSN
    Your favorite porn sites
Where you spend time during the day
    How fast you drive
    Everywhere you shop
    Your beer

And about a thousand other things... if someone chooses to do so.
Worrying about the data from your truck is laughable.

Buy a 1968 Chevy, ditch your cell, take all money out of a bank, get rid of all credit cards, no checks either, no internet, no smart devices and pay cash. That is the only way.
