    I don't think it's "so much better". I think at this point some people just enjoy a different driving experience . There are plenty of things an Auto is better at.

    Side stepping the clutch will give you a good hard smoking burnout in the 1st three gears. Post it on youtube for all to see.

    Neutral drops will break your auto trans and will make a horrible noise when parts explode out the side of the case.

    Now go test drive one of each and show the salesperson what you have learned.

    For those of us with older carbureted manuals, how many of you learned the three-pedal push when approaching a stop sign to downshift, brake and feather the accelerator to stop, all while keeping your engine from stalling?

    Agree with this. Also it’s the driver. I use to have a 2wd manual single cab 4-banger I NEVER got stuck and did some stuff I probably shouldn’t have. I now have the 2016 AT and I find it great (now being OVTuned) and I have driven it over stuff where there were only 3 wheels touching the ground. It does fine and is great in traffic. This whole MT vs AT stuff is a bunch of malarkey

    Burning rubber is a joke, my high school buddy had a original Willy’s (it was back in the 70’s when high school kids could afford to buy the surplus ones) that could easily flip over backwards just by popping the clutch in compound low gear on flat pavement, that thing was a blast.

    Naw, did that with both types. My ‘95 4-Runner never even needed a clutch plate change, but I did have to reweld the pedal mount after it cracked from so many clutch pushes.

    You are correct for the most part.

    But you dont see most tru offroaders meaning more dirt time than on the pavment, and never Rock crawlers with an automatics.

    I prefer stick in the dirt.

    But for traffic and every day use. Automatic.

    I dont think there is a better.
    Its preference. But I have seen a lot of automatic drivers whine over trans temp when towing in this forum.look into it, I'm sure a few threads will come up.
    Have yet to see it with a manual.
