I own the 2018 Tacoma TRD off road. Safety sense in this truck has been out 3 times replacing the radar badge in front Toyota says it’s a bad batch out there. Gee wonder if that will be fixed before the warranty runs out. Cracked the windshield on this model it is $650 to replace because the safety sense and go pro mount is part of windshield and these windshield crack often. Mods to this truck without impacting the Safety sense are impossible if not extremely expensive. Shifting on this truck is horrible but manageable. The interior of this truck smells awful something when you buy the truck you think it will go way, well it doesn’t. I could live with all the other things that seem minor about this truck, but tech issues like the crap safety sense are not worth buying this truck and I will be off loading mine personally for that. Keep your 2017 but don’t buy this truck or newer until Toyota fixes the gremlins with assurances and a cheaper windshield. Anyone else having these issues? I have been reading some horror stories.

don't want to sound like a dick but get glass coverage from your insurance company .. I have a 18 with the auto no issues with shifting after update ...things are going to be expensive for any new vehicle since most manufactures have not yet released stuff for them .Always do your research and homework on any new vehicle test drive it for more than 5 min around the block most people jump into a new vehicle and get so excited about it they don't actually notice the things they don't like .

I’ve had zero of those issues except the shifting issues. But the TSB reflash fixed that. My 2018 is awesome. Very happy with it.

The reality is, you're on a site where most people have already purchased their truck. You might have better luck writing a bad review on Amazon.

I had a couple minor issues with my 18 out of the gate. Dealer took care of them and I'm super stoked with my truck.

I test drove the shit out of the 18 Tacoma TRD OR and did a ton of research on potential issues (thanks to this forum - never a lack of complaint threads) prior to purchasing. And guess what! I bought exactly what I expected.

My last vehicle had more tech features than my Tacoma. It's obvious that more tech can increase repair costs and potential problems. Is what it is.

Don't blame Toyota. That sounds like work from Dirty Mike and the Boys.

Quick question, did you have these issues before or after reading those horror stories?

No none only after trying to research the issues, did I discover others. Personally I should have known better and waited until the bugs were worked out.

No dick taken! I’ve never had to replace my glass on any vehicle until now never considered the insurance except that I have very good coverage and when I called them they threatened me with the claim counting against me. And I drove it a bit I owned prior a tundra no problems. But this little truck for a 55 year old man is becoming a burden everything else about it I still love but anyone reading that is my take on it, wait and buy one later because if your a juvenile and want to jack this thing up the tech is going to mess you up and cost.

In California you can’t buy glass coverage as far as I am aware. I have envy of those with $0 deductible for glass insurance.

I have Allstate seriously good coverage and glass but they twice stated this would count against me and in a way says they will increase my rate. That’s illegal but a fight I am not willing to take on at the moment. I am out the money to replace. Glad a few of you can shit a $1000 bucks
