To new to have done anything to it.
greetings y’all. Brandon here from North Pole Alaska! I just purchased a 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD PRO Caverly blue 3.5 V6 M/T, I have not see it yet as it is being shipped up from PA. I’m sure if you have been to Del Toyota in Thorndale PA in the last month you might have seen it.

I am a member of an awesome Offroad Club that has turned me on to the Toyota market, and I am excited for my first ever new truck purchase. I have many plans and mods I will be doing to this truck as well as trips all over Alaska with it.

I hope to learn a ton and inspire others to push ahead with their projects.

    Welcome and congrats.

I’ve bought 4 or 5 new cars / trucks from Del Toyota including my current Tacoma. They are good people.

I assume they gave you a great deal to buy from them and not anyplace closer to well....the North Pole. Lol.

That reminds me I have to call them and set up my 5k service.

Update! I finally picked up my truck. Had to fly down to Anchorage and drive it home. Nothing like getting a brand new vehicle and driving it 350+ miles just to get it your driveway. Still learning all the new buttons and features. I’m like it and resisting the urge to start wrenching on it.

I am debating the topper or tonnaeu cover option.

So i did a thing this morning, I was not sure where to post is so i figured i would toss this on here. I call this the OEM Roof Rack Delete.

Removal was easy with a T20 and T25 Torx bit. I did strip one out but I think it was my fault for using a worn bit. Drilled the head off and the old rack popped off.

After cleaning and prepping the area to reattach the plastic clips just above the windshield I learned that the clip although they have a foam tape you still have to use an epoxy to adhere them to the truck. I found that 3M DP-105 epoxy is the recommended adhesive to use.

Luckily my rack was a dealer install part and they removed the original clips along the front edge by the windshield so there was a spot marked out for where the clips go. While I was looking for the epoxy I did run across some drawer it’s that gave measurements on where to put the clips if you do not have them marked like I did.

After the epoxy set, I laid out the new OEM molding for a test fit, Starting at the windshield I clipped in the molding and with firm pressure i wedged it into the trough, and i started to remove the protective strip that covers the double sided tape, and pulling it out as i worked my way towards the back of the cab. From there i grabbed the short piece that gets clipped into the aft clip and tucked under the rear window molding, make sure you start to remove the protective strip over the double sided tape and press firmly as you work your way down the molding. I repeated this for the other side. I included some pictures of the before and after plus the part numbers needed for the project. I hope you enjoy this and it helps someone thinking about doing a similar mod on their rig.
