New Leaf Spring TSB

Sorry if I mislead you, but I do not work for Toyota. They are right up the street for me, so I can stop by on the way home and ask them lots of questions, but I work for a power company the past 26 years.

If you notice, I have not answered to many questions concerning lifts. I have slightly lowered both of my Miatas, but I have never "lifted" a vehicle. And after reading about all the problems that can arise after lifting a Taco, the most I am thinking about doings is using the Bilstein 5100's shocks to raise the front by only one notch (0.85") to make it a little more level.

I can speculate as to why they have not included the 2007's, but again that is speculation, not any inside information/knowledge. I think the 2007's will be included:
1. after the 2008's come out
2. the backlog of the 2005-2006 Taco's are "fixed" (I supect like the US had to wait behind Canada)

As for the first AAL question. I would say that since a AAL is nothing more than an added spring with more arch, the new 4 leaf TSB springs would accomplish the same thing (since people have reported that it raises their rear by 1"). The only question that I have with this at the moment is will the new springs settle back down after 1,000 miles or so to their original rear truck height.

And your second AAL question, I have absolutely no idea yet because I have not seen any "lifted" '05+Taco's in my area yet (yes, there are pre '05+ lifted Tacos, but not '05+ lifted Tacos). Most people around here keep their Tacos stock, that is why mine stands out so much because I have "modded" it and thus it looks different (but no lift).

Yeah, I checked and you're right, I called them back and still have not heard back yet. I wonder if the springs are somehow heavier duty perhaps?

At this point I have no plans to "upgrade" to the new 4 leaf pack because one of the reasons that I purchased a PreRunner was for the "softer" suspension compared to the base Taco (which I traded in for the PreRunner), and the 4 leaf springs would be counterproductive concerning that "softness".

The second reason is when I have used the truck bed, it was for bulky items, not heavy items (I have a trailer for that).

Third, I just ordered a set of rear Timbren rubber springs so if I do have anything heavy, the Timbren's compensate and prevent the "sag & bottoming out" rear problem. Plus the Timbrens do not affect the regular suspension till you load the rear, otherwise the ride is stock.

 

After researching this I will go with the Roadmaster active suspension. I used it in my other truck and it was great. http://www.activesuspension.com/

 

Viper-2, have you got around to installing the RoadMaster setup, and if so how is it working?

 

Well since then I changed my mind and went with 5100's all around & I did get the TSB. I had the Roadmaster on my Nissan truck for years and it was really great. It kept the truck tight while towing and while empty it felt smooth.

I just went with the TSB since it was free, otherwise I would have gone with the Roadmaster.

 

hey guys, I'm new to this forum and had know idear about this rear suspension problem. I just purchased A 2009 4X4 crewcab, Lb TRD sport,tow package and it only had 3 leafs. when I loaded up my truck with about 600lbs which I carry on a regular basis it was bottoming out. I didn't even think about calling toyota so I had 2 more leafs added on my own (total of 5). I don't understand if toyota was having a problem with previous years why weren't 2009 fixed. Now my my question is does anybody think I can be reminburst for my $500 rear spring upgrade. Thanks.

 

You won't be reimbursed for the $$ you spent on upgrading the rear suspension. The best you can do is wait for the 2009 model to be included in the TSB and then get the TSB suspension done. Some folks have even gotten the TSB suspension in boxes and have sold it on TW, etc. because they already had aftermarket stuff on their trucks...

You will not be reimbursed. For one, did you ever bring the problem to their attention? Also, it is my understanding that the suspension TSB has not yet been updated to include the 09. In fact, the TSB was only updated in the last quarter of 08 to include the 08s. That being said, there are several on this board who have been succesful in getting the TSB done on their 09s.

I would assume that once the TSB is updated for the 09s, you may have a chance by complaining to the service manager that your truck bottomed out. Alternatively, you could make the complaint with Toyota North America and obtain a case number.

I e-mailed my complaint to the service manager with the TSB PDF file. I made sure that my complaint was written in a way that qualified me for the upgrade. The service manager ordered the parts without looking at my truck and when the parts arrived, I took it in to have it done-no questions asked. I supplied the Bilstein 5100s and they installed them in place of the yellow Bilsteins which are part of the TSB for non-TRD trucks. I was given the yellow bilsteins to keep, FWIW.

 

No, our TSB AAL is not what Toyota is giving you. Our TSB AAL is the AAL for the new TSB spring packs.

yes, you can use our TSB AAL in conjunction to your TSB leaf pack.

Will they do the tsb on my truck if i have a 2inch spacer in the front?
If they do, will they replace it on the new shocks?

BTW i have a non trd truck so they will be replacing all shocks.

 

I really have no idea whether or not a Dealership will be able to perform the TSB on your leaf packs.

We are not talking about the front springs, but the rear springs.

 

Give the dealer a call and ask...
