just wondering did your glass break on its own ?? or did u have a rock hit it . if it was a design flaw then it would be covered under manufacture warranty . U should go to Geico they don't threaten u with rate increases very unprofessional on there part . My folks have had 3 accidents with Geico and not once have they increased there rates .Sounds like its time to give the boot to your insurance company.

Huh, I had a TX built 2018 SR5 that I traded in for my Mexico built 2018 OR. I have had none of these issues. I did worry a bit I would find some sort of issue, and certainly sympathize with those who have. But I don’t think it is the “every truck” issue, much less a 50/50 shot.

I will admit that my second dealer was crazy enough to offer me a glass insurance that would cover replacement “up to 10 times” in the first 6 years / 72,000 miles. After reading the details to uncover the loopholes, I signed up. I have read the threads about the replacement woes (it’s expensive and involves Toyota). Sure, I have comp insurance... but now I can offload to this “Special” insurance and let the fun begin! It will get better over the years, but I’ll make money after the first one.

0 issues with my 18 OR. Love the safety features. Truck smells wonderful. Auto seems like every other auto slush box out there. Of course things are expensive to fix on a brand new 40k dollar truck

I love my 18 I have had zero problems with it. I have lifted and put on 33s and all the safety sense stuff still works just like its supposed to.

I remember one time I was replacing the windshield wipers on my Tundra and accidentally bumped the windshield bracket with the wipers removed and it smashed down on the windshield and cracked the living hell out of it.

This post has no point to it, you just reminded me of that.

I represent seventeen auto insurance companies. I personally would never claim any glass. If it's not over a thousand pay for it yourself. My personal rule is if its not $2K, pay it myself. Here in Texas a claim will upcharge your insurance for three years, (and upcharge the insurance you buy for EVERY other car on your policy, and EVERY other person on your policy), and color your tiering for five years if you are shopping your insurance around. A guy I quoted a week ago had a $50 glass chip claim. It raised my quote by $300 a year. That's for three years too. $900 he's going to pay extra...for making a $50 glass claim. Been doing this almost 25 years. Pay it yourself. By the way...even with the $300/yr I still saved that guy money, and wrote his auto and home. Why? Because his insurance upcharged the CRAP out of him for that $50 windshield claim, much more than $300/year. Pay for your glass now, or pay your insurance company back later, and more, for them paying for it now.

P.S. All the stuff we are adding to our trucks? That's not covered, UNLESS you buy special equipment coverage for the value of the equipment. Luckily its not expensive. We are covered for the way it came off the dealer's lot.

Good post. People shouldn't buy vehicles if they cannot afford the hits every now and then. I too follow the 2K rule. Unfortunately, my wife had a pause and totaled her new Highlander. Had to use insurance on that one.

I have glass coverage through Amica. $0 deductible. Added $30 to my premium annually.

I dunno man. I had Geico until recently, couple years ago the windshield on my Subaru cracked. I had full glass coverage, oddly they won't even let you call to make a glass claim. Went through the internet portal, got it fixed a couple days later for $0. Rate didn't go up $300 the next cycle, actually went down.
    :notsure:

As for the taco windshield being thin, I've had mine for over 2 years and 33k miles. It's taken a few pretty good whacks and no chips or cracks yet (knock on wood).

I did the Toyota tire/windshield/dent removal deal. Not sure yet if it was worth it but from what you're all saying maybe I'll be thankful I have it.

Has Toyota glass ever been good? I ask because my FJ glass looked like the windscreen on that one shuttle from the movie "Armageddon". I realize it was far more upright, but I don't think Toyota glass is any different than other manufacturers.
