So the basic universal rally armor flaps are pretty much the same thing? Is that what you run?

Just installed some Rally Armor universal mud flaps. Around $20 on Amazon. Not sure if I am going to run them full time or just install when going off-road. I’m not a big fan of the mud flap look but obviously want the protection.

Also pretty sure the fronts are going to rub while turning when flexing. I only used the two oem screws and washers to install, so a third screw towards the inner wheel well would probably help minimize rubbing.

I bet you could get some quality white vinyl and overlay it with an X-ACTO blade.

Also @bobd how did you two mount your RA flaps? Did you just template them inside the wheel wheel and then punch screw holes and use existing hardware? I have the OEM flaps but want flaps with more outside coverage. Thanks.

There is no reason mud flaps should be this crazy expensive.

Are you running the mf12 (car version) or mf20 (truck/suv version) of the basics?

I used the oem hardware and just eyeballed it. I put the flap up where I wanted it, drilled one hole for the top screw, then screwed the flap in with just the top screw screwed in then drilled out the remaining screws.

It was trial and error. I drilled a few extra holes on my first flap. No big deal, nobody will see them and they’re $20 flaps.

I went with the rek gens. Easy install and they seem like they will hold up well.

These are just the standard stock size. I have them set as far out as they go right now

Sorry for the late reply, I just got back from camping. I mounted the the flaps with the existing screws for the fender. I made a cardboard template so I could adjust the location before I drilled them. On the far inside of the flaps I attached the rears with a fender clip and screw and on the front I attached the inside with just a fender screw through the plastic wheel liner. The flap the being held by the original mounting screws for the fender, the inner screws just hold the flaps flat. I can take some pics if you like.

I first got the $29 set and they worked for a while and while stiffer, they started to deform and bend. it got to the point I couldn't stand the way the looked So, I decided to take the plunge and go with the $103 standard size universal flaps, I think they worked great and gave me the look I wanted, not to big and not to small. I like that they stay flexible and are thick enough to hank out of the way and not deform.

I’m happy with the Toyota ones. I like how they blend with the contours of the fender flairs.

+1 for stock. Not as long or bendy as the 2nd gen flaps
