I wouldn't doubt they're OEM parts, but one of my suppliers said that one of their parts suppliers rejected a bunch of parts for quality control issues and they found there way into the aftermarket through 3rd parties. Some suppliers have no sense of shame. Some bean counter I'm guessing said yeah better to recover some money than destroy fifty thousand pieces for quality issues

 

I have a collection of 300 series stainless steel bolts. And tons of Toyota bolts...

 

All comes down to quality assurance. Some MFG's are worse than others.

 

You know there is an ACE near me. It seemed so small, I wouldn't expect them to have a big hardware assortment compared to Lowes or Home Depot.

 

They are my go to for nuts and bolts, they always have way more metric and specialty bits

 

My dealer I'm sure thought I was nuts ordering shit tonnes of Toyota fasteners.

 

I order bolts all the time they think I’m psycho

 

In early September I had more little baggies than a crack dealer. It was so bad I had to start writing on each baggie where they went. I had no desire to go dig through bolts bins at a hardware store to find stuff.

Nothing fits like OEM

 

The factory bolts hold up better too

Check out AlbanyCountyFasteners or Belmetric. I buy from Albany when I need smaller quantities of stainless metric bolts when Mcmaster doesn't have them. Belmetric is kind of expensive but they have some hard to find bolts.

I couldn't torque the dial faces or I'd ruin my powdercoat. Can't torque the driveshaft bolts because of the angle.

I torque everything else, besides lug nuts.

I wanted a rough ride. Purposely.

 

It's on a flange with a u-joint in the way, I can barely fit a normal wrench in there without a swivel joint.

I just tightened it till it wouldn't budge. Guess it wasn't enough.

There are things that has torque specifications, but aren't critical enough to care about. For example, I would care what the torque spec is on head bolts, or the torque on a gasket mating surface. But for the bolts on say a window regulator or a tailpipe holder, it's not really necessary to torque it. Just tighten it until it's snug.

I used to not want to air down at first cause I was lazy but always did. Up until a couple of months ago I would just drive home slow after airing down unless I'm far like at Pismo. I finally bought me a Viair 400P-Auto a month ago. Can't believe I waited so long to get me one. This thing works great.
