Great, but you guys start the engine and drive them some time.

Also, still looking for any tips or guides on doing this as simply as possible on a Taco. 4runner is not the same setup, unfortunately.

Would like to know the same, I gave up even trying to get to the transmission breather. You would think Toyota would route them higher. Maybe I am not looking in the right place. Frustrated.

I would venture to say they are in the same spot. Have you climbed back to check?

Looks like you still need to do the ole secondary air injection pump filter mod!!

I've seen a picture of the 2nd Gen Taco with the body lifted off the frame so you just see the top of the trans and transfer case. The breathers just lay right on top, not even getting to the engine compartment. :(

Got the filter, just need to get it done. 1 of many things I need to complete.

That mod sucks in water more easily than the stock set up just an FYI, not that youre starting your engine in 4 ft of water but I feel a secondary air delete is just the best option overall for engine longevity.

    About the breathers? Still wanted.

This is really a separate convo that's gone off-topic from the thread. Maybe one of you guys can help close it out here with a link to a more general thread explaining what you're talking about.? (I have no clue about w/e mod you're talking about)

OK so the breathers are as follows.

Front axle and AAD are separate and routed up to the engine bay, someone posted a picture of them earlier

The transmission has the breather in the very top, just where the bellhousing bolts to the transmission body. Being a small plastic cap, usually it is never seen on automatics unless the transmission is removed.

The transfer and front prop shaft disconnect are ran into one line along the top of the transmission, and go to a clip help on by the top bellhousing bolt behind the engine.

The gas tank vent is ran up by the filler neck with a plastic filter permanently attached

And we all know where the rear axle one is

Thanks - this was actually a little more related than I realized, but still. Had no idea the '12-'15 had such a configuration change under the hood (why?). Now the all 3rd gen weirdness seems a little less surprising to me...

Thanks for the detail on specific locations. Helpful for locating purposes, but I'd still love to see if (and how) anyone on here has successfully extended the transmission and transfer case breathers up into the engine bay without pulling a hand/wrist/back/neck muscle, disconnecting and raising the body up off the frame, or sending tiny elves up there to do the work.

I extended all my breathers to the top of the fire wall, including the gas tank. I didn't break any bones or bend anything. But the difference is I have a standard, i just pulled the shift boot off, threaded the transmission breather with a 10 mm hose barb, and went to the arb manifold under the hood.

That's an awesome tip for those with standard (manual), but I don't think those of us with automatic have any such trick like that as an option... :(

The secondary air pump is used to create a lean mixture in the exhaust manifold before the catalytic converter to heat them up as quickly as possible in certain conditions for emissions reasons.
