Yesterday I received a letter from Toyota regarding the original coverage parameters of the 12 years from the date of first use or 1 year from the date of final approval. Reading further it was the frame recall on the 2005-2010 that has been circulating on the forums. I just want to know...
    -What constitutes a bad frame?
-Do I have to pay to have it inspected?
-Whats the average time it takes to replace frame
-Can you have the dealer swap out parts for free or do they charge
-What to look out for that the dealer might charge for
-How to maintain frame in pristine condition if I get new frame or how to maintain current one ( I live in Iowa so there is already some rust on it)
    Thanks

From what I have seen if they have to take the part off and put it back on anyway it looks like most dealers will make a deal with you or perhaps do it for free since, again, they have to do it anyway.

For example, I presume lower and upper control arms could be included or perhaps leaf springs.

Totally free for inspection. Mine passed (I knew it would, only rust issues were superficial, brought in anyway)

The way I look at this, bring it in even if you don't suspect you have an issue just to get an inspection. Dealership always 'recommends' stuff even if there is no problem! 3 ways to take the recommendations... you see that they are just outlandish and say thanks and leave, you see that they did diagnose a problem that you have been having and presented you with an estimate that includes part numbers and you go home and change them, they diag another problem you have been having, verified it, you can't fix at home, have them fix or bring diag to another mechanic and have them fix. It's a free diag on your truck :)
