I interpret that to mean it will shift to keep from over-revving, but it won’t be very driveable. He specifically stated the shifting won’t be ideal for “normal driving”, which implies that it’s not very functional.

A good compromise could be S mode ECT off would be like the stock S Mode ECT on and S Mode ECT on would enable shift locking. If that makes any sense.

The owner’s manual recommends “S” and ECT on for towing. I don’t want to be forced to manually shift while towing for optimal drivability...if I wanted that I would have purchased a MT truck.

In my opinion once you modify the truck in any way the manual no longer applies to the modified area of the truck.

I don’t consider the tune to be a modification...it’s an enhancement. It hasn’t changed basic functionality, just improved it.

Do you have an idea what would happen if someone had a Shift select Pro hooked up to the vehicle and had the shift lock program also ? Would the ssp be canceled or could it cause damage ?

I’m my mind, improving something doesn’t require modification. Not all modifications improve the original, and all improvements are not modifications.

Your definition may differ, and that’s fine.

I can try it once this new version of 1.05 is out, still using my Shift Sense Pro once in a while. I think the SSP would just take over the shifting since it is basically simulating what the driver is doing by moving the shift lever.

"S" mode and "ECT on" equals manual shift with a couple of safety features, 1. auto downshift to first when stopped at light, 2. auto up shift at really high RPM to prevent over rev.
Sounds awesome!!! I am so down!!
I have a honda FIT that I use to commute 90 miles each day. It has a sport mode with paddle shifters. The sport mode functions the same way as the OVTUNE proposal. I really like this feature. It's the way sport mode should work. Let the driver decide which gear and when.

    Mat,

How long is the shift delay from when you slap the stick to when the tranny shifts? Is it like a IS350/GS350 paddle shifter, or is it like stock (delayed)?

Another thing to keep in mind is when OVTune is tuning these Trucks he's doing so with no third party items like shift select Pro etc. To be honest after the tune you shouldn't need anything else to enhance the shifts or throttle response. Also it's kind of like asking Borla if you modify your Borla Exhaust with a Magnaflow resonator how will it affect the sounds, they won't know that because they don't have Magnaflow parts laying around to test.

So...if someone were to sell their truck, could they also sell their OVtune? I'm not trying to be cheap, I'm just broke and don't have $700.

Yes, but you'll still need to purchase a new license from OVtune. The combined cost should be still lower than buying direct from OVT.
