I had a similar problem with a dealer lying about work being done and my dash cam proving they didn't do it.

I contacted Toyota corporate they said they'll follow up with said dealer but they dealer has lots of positive reviews.

I just stopped going there .

Do you have any other photos of your BBP Taco? It looks pretty good on your profile pic.

I’ve been watching this thread. I worked for a Toyota dealership for a few years in the service dept.
It was well known that driving other people’s vehicles would be done so with respect.

This is not the normal out of dealerships. With all the electronic devices these days, just not worth the hassle. On the flip side, let’s just say this went to court (probably not going to happen), what’s the arguement? Can the Tacoma not take some full throttle launches while troubleshooting a drive train issue? Maybe the tires do suck to get on the alignment rack? Who knows. I just don’t see this going anywhere.

Over the years I have only had a few issues with one dealership, and unfortunately it was a Toyota dealership service department. To make a really long story super short, my wife was no longer allowed to take any of our Toyota vehicles in for service...period. The particular Toyota dealership just seen a pair of tits and figured upselling service would be money in the bank. Unfortunately for them, she’s very intelligent and actually goes in well prepared.

Lucky for us, we owned Toyota’s. Going to the dealership was not a regular thing out of 3 Tacoma’s, 2 4Runners, and a Tundra. Out of all these Toyota vehicles, the Tundra seen the most dealership time.

My advice to you, find another dealership. We used the other Toyota dealership in our city that was around 20 miles away, through hell traffic. Totally worth it.

If a tech unplugs a camera its a sure sign they are hiding some SHADY actions. Disabling a camera is just a way for the crappy tech to demonstrate that they are untrustworthy. Techs work for the CUSTOMER and are working on the CUSTOMERS property. If you prefer not to work in an environment where you are responsible for your actions and held to a high standard of conduct go work for your local shade tree garage and wrecking yard.

    LS1 swap with nitros.
This is a case where 1. the dealership lied on what was conducted on the vehicle to bill extra to Toyota (aka FRAUD) and 2. the tech abused the vehicle, including language that indicated it was not part of a test drive to diagnose issues.

If I were the OP, I would want 1. Corporate Toyota, and this dealer, aware that the fraudulent issues have been reported and 2. The tech should be suspended, fired, or dealt with.

This is terrible reasoning and comes off entitled as fuck. You pay for an oil change and you think that entitles you to FILM everything and everyone in the shop?

Do you do this with every industry? Do you only go to restaurants where you're allowed to record every move the chef makes? If you have a computer worked on would you be pissed if they covered up the webcam? Do you get to film the tailor while he works on your suit? Do you stand over a plumber filming them while they fix your sink?

If you don't trust a certain dealer/mechanic to work on your truck then just find a mechanic you DO trust, but don't be all bitchy about not being able to film them while they work. Sure some mechanics don't care either way but many of them would rightly feel awkward having everything they say and do filmed, especially the old timers who are the most experienced in the first place.

Most places these days are recorded for both customers and employees. I don't see why having a camera in you vehicle even matters for the techs, I'm sure the OP wouldn't have even looked at the footage if the alignment was fixed when he left the dealer with his pickup.

Keybot is correct. If the work had been done correctly I would of never even bothered to look at the footage.
When I pay for a service, I do expect to get what I pay for. If this was a out of warranty job, I would be paying for 2 tire rotations, 1 mount and balance, a alignment check and a alignment. Yet most of that was not done.

Im a very easy person to work with when it comes to mechanics, Ive been in the industry for along time. If the tech lies and doesnt do the repair correct, then im going to raise hell and nitpick every single detail. Do the repair right, and im on my way and you get a perfect survey score, hell, even do the repair half right and dont lie and ill still be happy. Just dont try to lie about the job.

Just read this thread, jeez, some dealers staff really are awful. It'd be nice if there was a camera that could be attached up by the back of the headliner, not easy to spot, that a tech. couldn't remove, anybody know anything like that?

My wording did in fact come off entitled and I am embarrassed I worded my reply so poorly. Please accept my apologies for the well meaning but poorly worded post. I believe my reply to Bishop84 more clearly explains the point I attempted and failed to make in a reasonable and civil manner.

If the dealership I use unplugged my dash cam while in their possession, they would hear from me about it and would lose my business going forward. End of story.

As for the OP, speak with service manager and the GM about both issues. Alert corporate of the padded warranty charges. Find another dealership to do your warranty work in the future.
