Took the throttle body off and gave it a good cleaning. It really needed it because there was gunk all in it from 200k+ rough miles. Also cleaned the maf sensor and air box. Now I'm idling around 2000rpm. Figured it was because the ecu was trying to compensate for the extra air it was getting and would eventually return to a normal idle. But after a few days of driving, it's still idling high. Engine runs great and my power and throttle response is noticeable better, just idles high

This is the engine data at idle if that helps.20181104_123748.jpg 20181104_123757.jpg 20181104_123804.jpg Only code I have is for the o2 sensor behind the cat, but that's been there for a while. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Does the fuel system ever go into closed loop? Probably not if one of the O2 sensors is shot. If you don’t see closed loop that’s means the computer can’t rely on sensor data and defaults to running in some sort of fail safe program. The bad apart about neglecting your rear sensor is that your cat may have been damaged as a result. But either way, to figure out your idle issue you need to get the system into closed loop first then go from there.

A stray thought--you had the throttle body off. Are you 100% sure the throttle cables got reinstalled correctly.

So new cat and rear o2 sensor before I can run more diagnostics. Sounds like the throttle body cleaning just got a lot more expensive than I was expecting.

Did you use throttle body cleaner on your mass airflow sensor?

Is the butterfly closing all the way?

Did you disconnect the battery for a bit and reconnect to reset?

Was also told by a Toyota tech, that sometimes on higher mile vehicles the the butterfly will wear down ever so slightly and lets more air in that it throws off the sensors.

Nope. Used maf cleaner. Made that mistake a long time ago and learned my lesson.

Did u remove the little green valve on bottom of throttle body.
The one under the inlet that coolant goes into and clean all junk out of that.
    Try that.
    And the coolant temp sensor.
Should be on pass side towards front goes straight down into intake.
I believe that both have to do with warm up.

The iac? If so then yes it got cleaned out as well as the coolant temp sensor.
Disconnecting the battery was the first thing I tried.
I'm thinking you might be right about the valve wearing down, I read about that while googling this issue. All that crud could have helped seal it and now that its clean air is bypassing the valve.

It was from a fairly good Toyota shop that I used to go to when I lived in AZ. He said don't clean it or the idle will run high.

Maybe some others will chime in to confirm that.

Cat may or may not be fine and not required for closed loop - however the o2 sensor is required.

Problem is that I cant find a place to buy a new valve, you have to get the whole throttle body. Which makes no since because it's only 2 little screws that hold it in.

Even if the first one is working fine? And just curious, what does the close loop even mean? All the computer data is like reading French to me.

Yeah, that is what he said why to never clean it, since you have to buy a whole new throttle body. We got on the topic, because I had the truck in the shop to fix a leaking injector, and ask if they would clean the TB since everything was going to be apart.

Maybe someone has a cheap fix.

You're welcome. I almost did it myself, but luckily it was in the shop and he told me. Half the battle is learning all the little tricks, ya know..

There has to be a cheap simple fix though.
