You'll get more selling it yourself. Look at edmunds, NADA, KBB, and set a value. It's worth what someone will pay for it--so set a value and advertise. If it doesn't sell, lower your price. I had great luck with craigslist and Facebook Marketplace selling vehicles.

 

I traded in a ‘17 Tacoma TRD Sport 4x2 with 4,783 miles for a ‘18 Civic Hatchback Sport 6MT in Sonic Gray Pearl and got $29,500 on the trade for the Tacoma. I doubt you’ll get much over $30k for a trade.







Although I traded the ‘18 Civic for another Tacoma, I kept the Matchbox replica I purchased.

Your 4x2 sport isn’t really a like for like comparison to a loaded 4x4 OR.

One reason for trade is the sales tax savings. It’s killer here and I’d only pay sales tax on the trade difference. Closer that difference is to zero the more money I’d save.

Dealers don’t deal on type R’s either. MSRP or higher. Which is why I told them to fuck off.

I’d been cool if they were around 32-33. 27k is a straight up insult.

I tried going from a truck to a new go-cart (GTI). I won't do that again. If anything I'll have a nice truck and buy an older fun car (R32 maybe) since I want to tinker with it anyway.
If you really don't have a need for a truck that may be different...

Looking around on cars.com in your area the 2017 ORs with under 20k miles list for 29-35k. That's list price. Say they can sell it for 32-33k realistically. In that case the 27k trade offer is about right. I can see them pushing it to 28 maybe $29k tops. Each dealer will try and make at least a few thousand $ on a car they bring in. Complicating matters is the car you're after is very rare and they know they don't have to deal on it I guess.

 

No, it’s not an exact comparison, but it’s in the ballpark. You’re loaded TRD Off Road 4x4 won’t differ significantlyin trade-in value compared to the TRD Sport 4x2 I traded in. The difference in the two vehicles at MSRP may have been $4,000-$5,000, but that $4,000-$5,000 won’t translate penny for penny at trade-in. It simply doesn’t work that way.

 

Great perspective! As a Honda enthusiasts, we’re talking about the Honda Civic Type R! Dealerships have been reduced to a limited number of allocations per year (only 1-2 in some instances) and have been selling them for $5-10k over MSRP from buyers purchasing outright or even auctioning to the highest bidder without the hassle associated with trade-ins.

Agreed. In my area used sports are going for 32-33. They could get 35+ for mine.

My 2018 Q60 is pretty fun. Paid 40 for it. That’s a little over 7k off sticker but it was the last day of the quarter and demand isn’t as high as the Honda CIVIC Type R.

 

They’re ripping you off, I went to the dealership and asked about trading in my 18 OR with 5k miles on it. Wanted a 19 Calvary blue OR or 18 PRO. Offered me 32k for it. That was before negotiation.

 

I would never step foot in a dealership and ask for trade-in value first.

 

I agree, it was out of curiosity. From my experience going to echo park or car max, getting your car appraised and using that as a bargaining chip has worked in the past.

 

Use TrueCar now instead. KBB is now owned by Cox Automotive who supplies a literal shit-tonne of software and services to dealerships. They're a little biased to deliver the best value for their customers IMO.
