I know this is all just hypothetical talk, but I'd never do this haha. Way too much work for a lateral move or for a loss imo. This thing was built for a narrow 35 which works great. The width of the truck is perfect for the height, and it still fits between the fenders of my trailer. With 15.50s and wider wheels, I'd be adding a decent amount of weight/rotating mass, I'd be gaining nothing in clearance from the ground to axle/frame, would have to go through the trouble of adding rock rings to the new wheels, and then I'd have to worry about building drive-over fenders...

The treps performed great too. I have honestly seen no difference between these, the swampers, and the MTZ's, except for on-road performance. All three perform great off-road

Can't fault you there. It's just in my mind a wider tire equals more stability...or in the mud and sand, they stay on top better, but since your truck (or mine) isn't really built for mud and sand, it's really only the stability that counts. I'm guessing that a 15.50 would probably give you better traction on dry rocks like at Moab, while the 12.50 would probably do better on wet, muddy, and slippery rocks...which coincidentally is usually the type of rocks you wheel on, so you made a wise choice. Guess I'm still having a little trouble letting go of my roots and the lessons I learned back then.

I'm curious, when you guys went up to AOP, did you do any of the difficult (black triangle) trails, or are those mainly for the bouncers and buggies?

Which one did you roll on? I'd like to assume it was black, but sometimes it's the theoretically easy ones that get you, haha.

Haha, you've got me all spooled up now. I can't believe I'm actually excited about getting rid of the front locker, but I'm probably going to swap the front diffs out right away once I get the clamshell and third from you. And since I'm technically down to one good tire (two of them are worn down almost to the wear bars because they were doing all the braking and I gouged a nasty chunk out of the sidewall of one of the ones with good tread so it could pop at any time)...and the 35x12.50-15 LTBs are so cheap ATM...and I really just need to slap a 2" body lift on the truck and I should theoretically clear the 35s just fine...especially since those '01 T4R LCAs I have on the truck now have steering stops on them (I don't think I rubbed frame at all at the Fall Camp & Ride)...

I could be on 35s before the end of the year if I'm lucky, then it's just down to getting the 4.88s in there with the True Trac up front.

They only do trail service every 6 months so if you go at the right time blues and greens can actually be blacks.

yup, that blue trail 21 was a pain where Jeff bent his wheel, blew a tire, and Jim blew his ring and pinion.... more damage on that trail than all the others combined that weekend lol

for sure. I've been seeing that they are doing trail maintenance as we speak via their instagram, so it should be some pretty good wheeling by the time March rolls around.

You can beat the shit outta the firewall and get those 35s to fit... Just look at Dom's runner. Plus, a 2" body lift will leave huge gaps between the body and the sliders/bumper

I'm not too concerned about the gaps. I had to beat the shit out of the pinch weld over the slider legs to keep the cab from rattling on them. 2" won't be that noticeable and it will probably make the sliders work better as step bars, haha. The bumper can be raised. I was thinking about redoing the way we have it mounted anyway to make it a little more solid in the event I can ever afford a winch. Plus, don't forget I'm planning on raising the drivetrain 2" to flatten the belly some (which, conveniently enough, will give me a lot more room for working on the bottom side of the engine and the front diff). And while I'd most likely be able to clear the 35s on my current wheels just fine with the 2" body lift, I ultimately want to go to 10" wide wheels which means even with the BL, I'll probably still have to do some tubbing on the firewall/floor board for the extra track width.

The BL might still even be a temporary situation. I was thinking about making taller body mounts, but thinking about it, 2" isn't that big a deal, at least not as much as 3" would be, so I might just roll with it if I'm not getting too much movement out of the blocks. The only place it might look goofy is the gap between the bed and the frame seen through the rear wheel well, but there's fixes for that as well.

Oh, and I'm really not worried about the rear bumper since I plan on having you build me a HC version after the BL and 35s are on at some point. It'll be a benefit there too since we'll have a straighter shot to the frame for the mounting brackets and be able to get the bumper up higher.

Wide tires are good for stability but you are only on a 3” lift. I’m Only rocking a 12.50 and I’m at 6”s of lift.

My 40s are going to be 13.5 and that’s wider then I want but that’s what they have.

You also have quite a bit more track width than stock right now because of the Maxtracs and especially after you get those full width tons under it.

But yeah, I'll be rocking 12.50s, but only because they don't have a 13.50 in 35s. I'd never be able to fit anything like a 15.50 or 16 with 5 inches of lift. But I think a 12.50 on a 10" wide wheel is doable with my 3" suspension and another 2" body lift. Then I can get some of my stance and stability back that I have now with my 33x13.50s on 8" wheels. It's either that or wheel spacers, which will still leave me with tubbing even with the body lift. @GuyHuey 's truck's tires and stance look really good with 35x12.50s on 10" wide wheels, so I'd kinda like to go that route with mine, only I think I'll still sit lower than he does.
