My work f150 has the fuel door that won’t shut. The engine light is on . My boss won’t pay for a replacement door. Ford gave us a crazy number. I told them to order the part. Cheap company said unless it fails emissions we won’t replace it. I hate that stupid fuel door. I still don’t understand why a cap isn’t used always

2nd Gen had an Air Bag and the Grab Handle so there was no "extra" Air Bag.

The air bag might work better without the handle. Totaled my 15 in a head on, those air bags saved my ass. They may be putting a bigger bag in there, don’t know. I do miss the handle in my 18.

You see it in cars as well. There's a certain profile that gives the ideal aerodynamics and that is more or less what every manufacturer is forced into with fuel economy standards. There's a little room to play but you can line the entire segment and you'll see similarities across the board.

I didn’t say extra. And I don’t know the reason. Just figured the airbag deployment might have been an issue so they improved it somehow and the handle had to go.

It would be interesting to know what the facts are around it. That’s all I could think of.

I noticed on most newer trucks the lower part of the tailgate is sunk in, have a feeling it is for aerodynamics and MPGs

I may trade in my 2017 for a 2020 if I can line up some better numbers

I was going to bring up the fleet sales too. No way the Ranger will have anywhere near the Tacoma’s sales to households.

Agreed. I'm guessing the Ranger will be hot for a few months, then settle somewhere around where the Colorado is. And as I mentioned before, I doubt it has any impact on the Tacoma's sales.

It will pull F150 buyers mostly I think, or Ford fans in general.

I brought up the new Ranger with my Ford dealer before I bought another Tacoma. He didn't seem interested in even discussing a non-F150 and noted that the Ranger would be retail+ when they did arrive.

Exactly. The same way the Colorado, Canyon and Ridgeline didn't dent the Taco's sales (they've gone up), neither will the Ranger, IMO. I think, as you said, it will mostly sell to Ford buyers.

I think Toyota publicly committed to their complete fleet being at least partially electric by 2025.

"...The automaker added that by 2025 it will no longer develop any Toyota or Lexus branded car that doesn't offer a 'dedicated electrified model or have an electrified option.'..."
    Can be found here: https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/18/toy...ave-an-electric-or-hybrid-option-by-2025.html

As well as many other locations.

Went to a movie with the wife tonight, and before the coming attractions was a......Ford truck ad- heritage, Ford tough bla bla bla.

Ford is going to pull out all the stops marketing the ever loving shit out of that Michigan USA built heritage Ford tough Ranger...

I bet 100 internet points it is going to be a big success.....and Tacoma will see a sales decline because of it....imo.

Time will tell, let's all keep close tabs on the monthly sales numbers....lol

That's been looked at... I think the modeling indicated at best a few percentage points of charge over the day. It adds up I suppose, but might not be worth the cost and weight. Cars use some serious juice. Porsche's new Taycan will charge on different levels, but the high voltage charger is set to be 800 Volts. Approaching kV charging values!

Um, the Tacoma is a truck, not a car. As well as 4Runner, Tundra, Landcruiser and any vehicle Toyota produces that is not a car. Electric makes sense up to a certain GVW, not so much after using existing technology.

I would think Toyota has some plan to keep their marketshare. Most companies do, unless it's not worth it from a strategic point. We will see soon!
