I'm looking to install a second USB port in the center console box. I installed one in my 2nd gen following some instructions I found on Tacomaworld but after searching in the 3rd gen forum, haven't found a similar thread from someone who did it with their truck.

Key point is the head unit has changed between my model of 2nd gen and 3rd gen trucks.

It's nice not having your USB flash drive sticking out of the dash, and instead hidden in a port installed in an out of sight area.

And yes - I already have one of those mini flash drives.

    Has anyone done this before?

Entune's QNX supports two USB ports it appears. Add a 2+port USB hub to the existing USB port. Add your USB drive to port one of the USB hub. And another USB drive / phone to port two of the USB hub.

There is a super thread about installing a 2014 head unit in 2005 - 2011 trucks here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...nfo-part-numbers.318616/page-15#post-10439195

Basically you take out the head unit and then.

    1. Plug in one of these into the appropriate plug at the back of the head unit : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XKUVJQG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

    2. Install a USB port splitter that connects to the above in a space behind the dash: https://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-G...d=1537150593&sr=1-3&keywords=two+port+usb+hub

    3. Install one of these to replace the USB/Aux port in the dash (you can find more OEM looking ones if you look hard enough): https://www.amazon.com/Toyota-VIGO-...F8&qid=1537150343&sr=1-17&keywords=tacoma+usb

    4. Connect #3 to #2

    5. Buy a male - female USB cable and connect it to #2 and run the other end to the center console (where you want access): https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics...0823&sr=8-3&keywords=male+to+female+usb+cable

And you are done. I'm not sure what the back of the 3rd Gen head unit looks like and if something like, or the same as, the plug in #1 would work.

    Anyone follow through on this?
I'm looking to do the exact same thing, run the second to the console and would like to have it all hidden.
I still use the one under the radio.

I'm working on it but won't have the tools and shop space to do it until the X-mas holidays.

I plan on doing what I did with my 2010 as described in Post #6 above. The only part I would change is from Part 1. (Axxess Ax-Toyusb) in that post to the Metra AX-TOYUSB USB Port Cable

It looks like a crap load of connections to have stuffed behind the dash....which IMO is a shitty way of doing it, but it does do it.
I think that you have to get some kind of small hub...I thought that there were some cables that would do multiple audio connections.

I still want the audio port at the oem location in addition to the console.

And further into the thread another guy bought what looks like an extension of the stock...where you'd remove the OEM usb/3.5mm and plug directly into it and stuff that behind the dash....but then you lose the original location on the dash.

I didn’t. Never heard of putting a 3 amp fuse in. Just using the stock fuse.

The fuse would defeat the purpose of the blue sea since it’s 4.8 amp charger

Ya so the "cig lighter" uses a proprietary connector, I cut that off and crimped on normal female disconnect connectors. The proprietary connector is two different sizes for positive and negative so just cut it off and discard. You could do what that post says but I feel like thats more work.

“Normal” connectors... I’m new to everything electrical, so part numbers or any extra help would be awesome
