Tacoma - OVTUNE - VFTUNER - Update Info and Original Development

I get your response... I really do. But your argument is flawed.

First, when you sell a product you don't get to complain about being too busy as an excuse. Busyness is actually supposed to be a good thing. A well run business is one that is designed with scale in mind to be able to handle supply and demand. I even offered to help write the software to automate the distribution of these files. The current process is not scalable and will only become more of a frustration moving forward. Perhaps there's already a plan in place to fix this.

Second, I'm not asking for a tune for a 2023 4th gen Tacoma. I'm asking for an update to the tune that I already bought. An updated tune, which is software, is likened to a patch for your phone, which is ABSOLUTELY a part of the original purchase. No one here is asking for hardware. Let me know the next time Apple charges you for a software update to your iPhone.

Third, 60 hours later, I'm still waiting for the files. AFTER, the provider gave his word to have them delivered over 48 hours ago...

Fourth, It's easy to say all of this when you're not the one sitting and waiting for an overdue commitment to be carried out. You acknowledged that you are really enjoying 1.04R. Good for you. I am trying to as well... and for the ~$800 I paid for it.

Fifth, No where did I say anything about rushing 1.05. I am totally cool with waiting for the next patch, but I'd really like the previous one as promised. I completely agree with your perspective on complaining about the next version. The same people complaining about the wait are probably the ones that crush video game developers for releasing flawed products that don't work well until they've been patched several times.

@OVTune Yes, please do the right thing with 1.05, however long it takes, but in the mean time, send me the 1.04R files like you said you would. And might I recommend not telling someone you'd get it to them later in the afternoon, not send it, then when they query you, say something like, "I don't even know who you are." It's your job as a business owner to know who I am. I am your customer.

 

You mean besides the fact that my handle is in all the emails I've sent to him to this point? I even pointed it out to him in our exchange on here.

You said it. I came back to the computer after spending the day in the woods and it took me 2 beers to back track all the s-mode lock-up talk. Plus all the bitching and whining. I don't plan on seeing my tune till sometime in December and...Oh well. Yes, $700+ is a lot of money but, if you read all 1400+ posts, it seems like everyone is eventually getting taken care of by a 2 man (I think) operation that (once again) is our only tuning option. Thanks OvTune.

Plenty of other members have sent the 1.04r file to other members via email because he is slammed with 1.05. Instead of acting like a spoiled brat, they simply posted “hey, can someone email the file because Mat is busy?”

This forum of folks is also very forgiving and we understand that people get frustrated. You won’t be the first or last who comes here complaining or only when they need something or want to show off their new stuff.

You must have missed where this brat went through that dance until I found out that doesn't work if you're not a dongle user. I did everything I could to avoid asking Mat to do anything else, but when the timelines have shifted so much, and not knowing whether 1.05 will be out next week or next year, I opted to email Mat for 1.04R and to which he said, "this afternoon." I am not being unreasonable.

 

Will the ect + s mode gear lock work when the truck is using cruise control for long highway drives?

 

Why would you use “S” mode with cruise control?

 

Yes. You would use this to lock the auto trans in 5th or 6th gear so it quits downshifting to 4th at the slightest demand for more torque.

No, never. Someone will do it, and when/if they break their transmission or damage the engine because of it, that's their own dumb fault.

You really hit the nail on the head on this one. I wish I was in the same boat as you but I am still running stock tune and my original purchase date was August 4th before upgrading to the handheld edition + handheld data logger on Oct 10th and I've still not received anything. I just want the cable I paid for so I can at least flash 1.04, at this point I've given up on waiting for 1.05 because he doesn't follow through on his word. I honestly don't think I've had this sloppy of customer service however the excuse is "I'm a 1 man company, I'm busy". To me that's like saying "either you wait and take it or just beat it, there's nothing else on the market close to what I offer". For a business owner to say "I don't know who you are" to me that is completely unprofessional. You paid the man, he is supposed to know who you are if he values your business.

I really think Mat makes a great product but I think his company is far from a well oiled machine. I've been asking him for tracking information for the last week and he finally sends me one. However it was the wrong tracking number so now either my package was shipped to someone else or he messed up. Still no response from him with the correct tracking number after 20+ email exchanges.

That being said I think the only reason we have to put up with this kind of poor service is there is no other option. OVTune has the market cornered because no one else is currently making a product like this for the Tacoma. That doesn't only drive up demand for Mat but it forces us as customers to put up with this because there is no where else to go. If there was another company making a tune like this that would be a different scenario because he would actually have competition.

I get it, a lot of people in this thread who have gotten their orders already are all riding his jock like he is god himself and praising him but if they were in our shoes they'd complain just the same. Like you said, Apple wouldn't charge me for a software update so for the people praising him saying he is the greatest for giving us these free updates is a bonus, it's not. The product was never finished to begin with otherwise why would there be issues? There should be free updates after the initial release to fine tune and perfect the product, that is what any good business model would include. If he didn't make free updates then he wouldn't have as many sales. The better he fine tunes his product the more traction he would get in sales. People need to understand at the end of the day this is about $, he is making coin and he wants to continue to further develope his company hence the upcoming turbo kits etc. Personally if I were him I'd hire someone for the customer care and just stick to what he does best which is the tuning part.

Honestly can't wait for this gong show to die down and get sorted out so everyone can just get what they paid for and maybe they can start a new thread instead of this one which is closing in on 1500 pages, my goodness.

Since when is seniority on a board a qualifier for customer service? I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to be. I'd much prefer email answers and alerts vs. having to watch a forum. But, when you don't answer emails, this is what happens. Once again, I can't help but feel that the divide here is those that have vs. those that do not, both having paid.
