Weird "clank" when applying brakes

I get a weird clank when I hit my brakes, but not every time. It is usually after I haven't hit the brakes in a while. I checked everything out and it appears fine, plenty of brake fluid, pads are fine, etc. I'm not even convinced it is brake related other than it only happens when I hit the brakes. It happens whether I hit them lightly or hard. The sound isn't that loud either...

 

Did one of the lines come out of the holders on the other side of the firewall? Makes all sorts of odd noises when that happens.

 

I got the same thing, my old man's 07 has the same thing. I think it's something in the drivetrain but I don't know.

Does it only happen the first time you hit the brakes after changing direction? For example backing out of a parking space then pulling forward..then hit the brakes and hear the noise? Toyota has a TSB for front brake noise. (sorry don't have the number handy) The pads are moving in the calipers. I had the TSB done and the "fix" only lasted about 3 weeks. Toyota guys keep telling me this is normal for this truck.

 

I've had a similar sound with my previous vehicle (Chrysler Pacifica). They were trying to tell me it was because the way the engine block was mounted, and that it was normal. Yeah, right.
It would happen whenever I would apply enough braking power to make something move that certainly sounded big enough to be the engine block. *shiver*

Sold my truck 5 months after that; never got it fixed

 

I honestly can't tell if it happens after turning or anything, I'll have to pay more attention to that. It happens I'd say about 50% of the time I apply the brakes. And like I said it doesn't matter if I just BARELY tap them, if I haven't hit the brakes in a while it makes the sound. If I'm in bumper to bumper traffic constantly hitting my brakes, I never hear the sound.
