Sorry to hear all this about your purchase. I also bought a 2018 Sport and have had it about 6 months/15k miles. Not one issue so far as you stated. I did the TSB for the transmission at 10k miles (haven't noticed a difference really), upgraded my suspension (lifted about 3" with no issues and not extremely expensive), truck interior smelled like new (now it doesn't have an air freshener). The TSS system is awesome, yeah sometimes it will break but usually that's because I am coming in hot on a group of vehicles in front of me. My entune works great (but yes sucks compared to my aftermarket Pioneer HU I had in last vehicle).

Just sucks that your having this much issues. Also, this is my first Tacoma, so only thing I can compare to is my old 2011 Ford F150..

Well Ford is all in with pickup trucks and need the Ranger to sell well.

How many companies have made the mistake of Letting their models get old vs. the market?

It only mildly affects me since I own a 3rd gen, and won't benefit from improvements. How far Toyota falls behind affects resell value.

Where the mid size competition will hurt them most is profitability on the specialized trim.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. The only way an insurance company can not raise your rate when a person makes a claim is to charge higher rates UP FRONT to everyone. The public is gullible, and actually believes these "forgiveness" commercials. So sad. By charging everyone more they amortize the cost of not raising rates to the people that make claims. What this does is cause ALL of their insured to pay slightly higher rates from the get-go, even those that have no claims. That is not fair, is it? People that do not make claims SHOULD get better rates than those that make claims, right? You want a better rate if you don't make claims but your neighbor makes three claims a year. You want a better price than he gets, don't you? Should he pay the same price you do? NO! Those that make the claims should pay more, not you! But that is not the point I am making. Yes Geico and others MAY NOT raise your rate, but know that you are paying more up front for your insurance than what another company would sell the same coverage for. Price-wise, I kick Geico to the curb every time I come up against them. Find you an independent agent that represents many companies. Then you will find your best deal among all of you choices.

Anyone want to comment on what the EXHORBITANT rate increase was on their second claim after the first one was "forgiven"? Nobody ever discusses that...

Sorry to hear of your troubles
Could be worse, the windshield on my motor home cost me $4000 to replace.
I’m sure Toyota will get your truck corrected. Maybe there’s a lesson for you to learn in this adversity.
My 2018 has been flawless, if there’s a problem, I have confidence Toyota will correct it.

Every time I've had a chipped windshield it has been caused by a vehicle in the oncoming lane.

Sorry you don’t like the truck. I love mine so far. Yea it has quirks, but they’re better than the quirks my wrx had! That had tons of oil leaks all the time

I also learned from this forum somewhere about the funny smell from the vents. If you make sure the vents are on outside air before turning the truck off it won’t smell.

I always view these threads with skepticism especially when all posts by the OPs have been negative about their new Tacomas.

Unless you were actually talking with an underwriter, there is no way they would know that for certain. I can see in some circumstances that might be true (like having a history of filing claims or poor credit rating etc).

Wha? If you tailgate a vehicle you *won't* get rocks hitting the windshield. Theres no way they would be thrown vertically with enough backwards force to reach it.

It's when you're 3-5 car lengths from vehicles that rocks hit windshields. Tires kick it up and it launches back towards your vehicle.

When you create a thread to mention how much you hate PTS because your wife can't think to lock her doors and is to dumb to realize the difference between a garage and the driveway, you got bigger problems than a friggin truck.

Some windshields are more prone to breaking for sure.

Most of my breaks were due to the impact of my truck hitting a rock that was bouncing high enough to be hit my windshield.

They were not do to the force of a rock being flung by the rear wheels of another vehicle. That means I was following too close.

The bugs are worked out of the 05s 15s Not too much technology on those.

Also compare the price of an 18 to an 08...I bet the average MSRP jumped 40% since then, and the cost of glass for new vehicles rose by approximate proportions.

I hope you are honest enough to tell potential buyers that you have a stinky truck that shifts bad an is expensive to fix.

Kinda not a good idea, but seems that one of your points is that this stuff was not disclosed to you until after you purchased.

I will admit, that I should have extensively tested the Entune before I purchased because I drive long ways and need to set it and forget it.

Not sure it would have made a difference in final decision, but I would have offered less to cover cost of better unit.

Do you ever notice most people who complain about their trucks and not knowing it better before they bought seem to say..."heard good things about the Ranger" as if they had not heard good things about the Tacoma.

Are they FOS? or doomed to be on a Ranger forum a few years from now complaining about how the a Ranger let them down?

Back to windshields and rocks...the only rock my windshield encountered was from a commercial riding mower blowing crud (better word) out toward the street....bam! I try to avoid those careless idiots with a passion.

Not true. AAA has always covered my glass on comprehensive for $50 deduct. and never have I got a point for claiming anything on comprehensive.
