Made in Mexico or Texas; which has the highest quality and least problems?

I'll start this out without any bias: My Manufactured in Mexico '18 Tacoma Limited, for several thousand miles has been absolutely problem free. No complaints so far, just fits my bill, happy camper. I did not originally know it where it was manufactured when purchased in Texas. I wish there was a Toyota feed back review. What about yours?

I read this while searching about the same thing.

"You can either get a tacoma built in Mexico by Mexicans, or get a tacoma built in Texas by Mexicans."

But really, The Texas plant is mostly automated, the Baja plant (last time I checked) was only part automated. They all are using the same parts, it just comes down to if you want someone hand building, or a robot building.

 

Mexican built, early 2017 build though (Aug 16). And they did a pretty crappy job with mine. took me a year and a half of fixing stuff, complaining to dealer, etc., but I am very happy with my truck now that it drives properly... leaky diff, whining diff, chirping fuel pump, faulty CPS, warped drum, 2 software updates later and it drives like I think they intended it to from the factory. I hated Toyota for that first year though

 

There is no "better" facility that you will find. I'm sure Toyota has metrics from both plants but we don't.

 

Baja built.... tons of issues here

 

Where do you look to figure out which plant?

Not sure how much of that you can put on the workers at the factory. They don't manufacturer differentials or fuel pumps or CPS or Drums at the mexico plant. Correct me if I am wrong?

Texas built - Zero issues and great build quality!

I've had both. First was MX, the next TX. No issues with either.

 

I have a TX built one and it seems to be fine.

 

They all have quality inspections, it doesn't really matter where it was built/assembled. My friends company have both Texas/Mexico Tacoma's with no issues whatsoever and around 150xxx miles each truck. Oh, and the company owns about 50 of them as well.

 

Maybe it should be stated: Assembled in Baja or Texas.....

Indeed, my point honestly being I think those issues could have occurred at either facility. My body wasn't put together very well - shit was loose body panels crooked, bed misaligned, etc., so some of that could probably come down to the plant/workers but all in all these are trucks with thousands of parts manufactured by many suppliers so an "issue" generally has many culpable parties vs. just the plant handling the assembly

 

I have had 2018s from both plants.... No quality issues that I have found so far. I had a bit of that hesitation, since my first was TX... The DCLB seemed to be predominantly Baja, except one of the dealers I was looking at had a TX build. In the end, I didn't care enough to purposely go after that one.

 

My '15 TRD Sport was a Mexican built truck, had no small issues, one big issue, short block was replaced at 10k miles due a bad rod bearing, not sure where the engines are built but I'd bet not at that plant.

My Texas built '18 TRD Sport had some silly issues that needed to be resolved at purchase(a bumper cap in the wrong color, a fender flare gap, some bunching in the rear leather seat base cover), also the clutch pedal and some other parts were replaced to fix the creaking issue after a few months, other than that it seems to be pretty good.

I'd say that you stand a good chance of having random issues from either factory though.
