I'm in for my 2nd try. First dealer wouldn't do it because they couldn't duplicate the problem. We will see.

Took in my 2017 TRD OR MT for it's 15000 mile service today. Brought a copy of TSB--0125-18 which specifically mentions manual transmissions, and hoped to get the ECU flashed with the B1300 update at the same time. NO LUCK. Dolan Toyota of Reno said that would require leaving the truck all day with a tech, and it would only be done if they could recreate the idle surge with steering input. I couldn't leave the truck here all day, got sh#t to do. Does the dealership incur any cost when they reflash/update the ecu to them? Why do they have to be so difficult? Any advice when I go back in and try again?

He is a manual transmission. That update is for the automatic. He has the right one for the MT. Just like it's a different number for the Canada trucks.

And the update was done successfully. Not the night and day difference for me that some describe but it’s definitely noticeable. I second the idea that it runs like it used to on ECT now.

Haven’t spent much time on ECT yet to compare that.

My dealer did all tsb without any questions asked and I can’t tell any difference what so ever. Pedal commander will be in the mail soon!

I work In the dealer world so I can give you some insight. When claiming tsb related work through warranty it essentially boils down to how the customer words it to the advisor. If you go in and state you’re experiencing something verbatim to the TSB and the dealer denies doing it for some reason then honestly they are stupid for throwing money away. Every tsb has an OP code tied to it for claiming time under warranty. The dealer is getting paid for it. This also All depends on how the service department runs things. Some dealers are STICKLERS on “if we can’t reproduce it, were not going to attempt a repair” and some will just go with anything so they can get paid. There’s pros and cons to both. Pro is if you just go along with anything then you get paid. Con is if you say you repaired it and there’s still an issue, or a customer perceived issue still present, then you have an unhappy customer you have to deal with and may not be worth the .2 hours you were allowed to claim through warranty.

Check the calibration IDs with a OBDII scanner.

Always hunting for gears especially in cruise got annoying so I turned in my truck and they were super welcoming on fixing the problem with no back lash. Serra Toyota for the win.

Update: They updated to T-SB-0058-18 and T-SB-0062-18. What a difference! Very responsive shifts smoothly.

I wonder if this update is good forever or will it go back to the same behavior?

Just got the TSB this morning and luckily didn’t have to fight to get it done.
A very noticeable difference, holds gears longer and the gas pedal is finally responsive. Very well worth it.

    Ditto.

If you got the update and can't tell a difference, I'd question whether it was actually updated. The difference with mine was night and day.

After driving around with the new TSB for a few days, I'm very happy with the new gear mapping. Most noticeable is the quicker transitions to the low gears and less tendency to downshift at higher speeds.

Yes, but it does relearn. Drive it like you want it to shift for at least 1500 miles. If you can’t, use S.
