Ok guys...about to pull the trigger (pun intended) on the Xbox One version after checking out reviews. Any suggestions on whether its worth paying extra for a deluxe version?

Not that I need another game right now, still playing AC Odyssey and Fallout 76 BETA. But a western...

 

Happened to me last night. Just riding along then got blasted by some vatos.

Then pitched camp down by the lake where that mean ass legendary bear was and got held up. Got one of them on deadeye, but the other one got away on my horse. Didn't think to whistle him back.

I gotta say though, after one day of play, the gameplay and graphics are INCREDIBLE. So much harder/more complicated than RDR 1.

 

Just started Chapter 4 last night, already hate Saint Denis. Shotgun to the dome of the old Lemonye raider guy when you clear out the house for camp. Wasn't gonna let him off himself first. Looked at his head after and it was half gone lol.

Need to spend more time on the legendary hunts and fish. Every time I set out to do so I get sidetracked. I am also really bad at getting perfect skins

 

There's definitely a learning curve for sure. I am enjoying it though but I kind of cheated by turning off auto save.

 

If there's a few deer together study all of them before shooting your bow. It will tell you if they are poor, good, or pristine.

 

I thought it was just if you grab a headshot and don't mess up the pelt? I'm pretty sure 100% of my headshots have produced perfect pelts, but that could be by chance I'm just shooting a perfect animal? idk..

 

Or, if it's a huge animal, you can actually ride after it with your horse, lasso it and then kill it with a knife and the pelt will always be in good condition.

 

I was thinking more about the amount of meat and stuff you get off it. The better the animal quality, the more meat/the more it sells for in towns.

The Pelt itself I believe you are correct.

 

I lost too many skins early on in the game by getting killed and got paranoid. So if I run across someone that sounds the least bit cross, I just shoot and/or put some distance between me and them and then assess the situation. I can't just leave a body without looting it, so I keep having to kill witnesses that happen along, lol.

 

I don’t think this is right. I’ve had headshots on “good” and “poor” animals and it doesn’t result in a perfect pelt. But I could also be wrong

I take it this doesn't work with rabbits. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get perfect rabbit pelts. I did some small game arrows but not sure where I have to hit them. Maybe I gotta work on my dead eye and level it up so I can be more precise with it.

 

Nah, not for rabbits. Do you have the varmint rifle? Those are good on rabbits for getting perfect pelts.

 

I got to this point too last night after loosing a lot of good shit and like $20. Now I just collect skins and immediately book it to a trapper. And go far out of the way anytime I see something the least bit sketchy.

 

A scoped rolling block rifle for coyotes and up and the varmint rifle for anything under. I do head shots on all varmints and neck shots on everything else.

Once you study the animal it will tell you the quality of the pelt on every animal of that species. Then you only need shoot the 3 star ones for perfect pelts.

 

Ya I usually study them before shooting if there’s a group of 3 or more. I need to pay more attention to the type of rifle and ammo I’m using because I seem to screw up the pelts a lot. Maybe I just aim poorly

 

Thanks! I'll purchase the rifle and give it a try. On the hunting challenge it mentions something about crafting small game arrows to get perfect rabbit pelts.
