Quote from another forum that I recently saw about the same thing. Make sure your block of wood is in good condition. Some say to use plywood rather than just a piece of lumber.

I have been told that I should never use the crossmember as a jacking point! I don't know!

A piece of wood is fine. You should see the sketchy stuff I have to do to get my truck off the ground
12" shocks, and tires are still on the ground...

But like @JaCado said, that's what jack stands are for.
Or you could always spend +$400 on a pro eagle jack.

I wouldn't worry about the wood. It won't normally squeel until about 12ton

On these trucks you can use the crossmember with no issues.

That's about as high as I can go. I have to set it on my 7 ton jack stands, then lift it by the axle some more so I can pull off the tires so I can droop out the suspension.

If you just doing something like rotating tires, you can just jack it up by the axle or your LCA so you don't have to lift the truck so high. Even your stock jack will work for that.

No, Probably I will replace my struts with some Bilsteins and lift it up the front one more inch. So, that mean less clearance between the tires and the ground.

If you are lifting the truck from the axle or your LCA, your stock jack will work no matter how much lift you have. unless you are running really big tires.

Stock jack goes up about 18" so unless you are running 37s, you can use it to remove the tire if you are jacking from under the LCA or rear axle. I bet I can use it to rotate my tires and I'm running 37s.

Wooden blocks can be acquired for free at most new home construction sites. I scored about 20 of them in various sizes last time I was in a neighborhood with new homes being put up.
