Why do you think someone would pay 35 for your used truck when you paid 35 brand new? Why wouldn’t everyone just buy the new truck for 35?

It’s not just the reliable part. I just don’t think owning a truck is for me. A twin turbo V8? Now that is a vehicle for me.

Got $31.8k for it a year later on CL.

    It held it's value

Make friends with a good mechanic who has experience with Germans then. Preferably one with the factory scantool software.

It’s a new one. If there’s an issue it’s under warranty.

I don’t know. I’m conflicted. It’s not the inherent “truck”ness of my taco that I don’t like. I actually like it. I just miss features I used to have. If I dump $4-5000 into it with a kick ass stereo, ventilated leather seats and an OVTune (to ditch that horrid Atkinson-Otto cycle switch), and the dealer fixes my busted, crappy clutch assembly I’ll probably keep it.

You paid 35k for it new and dealers know what they can get for the truck and will make money on the deal.

We also know that since 35k is what a new on is worth and that some guys actually researched enough to discover that that they will want to see a discount off new transaction pricing so will not be willing to take less than say a 3k discount off new actual price so that puts your trucks value at maybe 32k so they were probably 10% low on there trade offer max.

Finally, what dealers sell trucks for and advertise them for is two different things.

I finally got rid of my 2018 (traded). Couldn't handle the kazoo sound anymore. Some poor guy is gonna end up very disappointed in the very near future. Unfortunate.

I have basically the same truck as you..loaded OR minus premium audio with 10k miles. A couple weeks ago I was offered 29k to trade on a pro that was listed for ~2,500 under msrp (~$42,000 sale price). Salesman said he had a "buy order at $31k". I assume that means another dealer was looking to purchase one like mine for 31k and turn around and sell it retail for a few thousand more. Long story short, trade should be 31-33k.

If the dealer has someone willing to pay 31k for it, I can see them offering 31k on trade to earn a sale on the Type R. If I am the Honda dealer manager and I have to sell the Tacoma myself for 31K, I'm not offering a penny over $28k. Can't run a business that size on no margins for long. Of course there are always exceptions and once in a whiles. If they sell the CTR for over MSRP for example they may push the Tacoma trade value. Trading in is always a balancing act and that's why personally I don't like it. Cleaner to sell privately even if you have to deal with crazies online, but our tax is only 5% here so in places where it's higher it may be worth trading in for tax savings.

Another consideration when trading any vehicle at any dealer is do they have a good supply of same/like model in inventory. They may not "need" your vehicle, thus a low offer.

Just spit balled True car on a new 19 OR and for my same exact truck, it's spitting back $41,500 on an MSRP of $42,500. If you can find a 19 OR fully loaded for $35k jump on it. But I know you can't.

Bingo! commbubba19 Your trade in to the dealer is his cost...he will mark it up most likely to the same price you purchased it for!

My dad is the service manager at a repair shop who specializes in high performance sports cars. I trust the crap out of the man (duhh) and he said never ever buy BMW. Its all fun and games until it comes service time. And dare I say it... tires. If you can afford a $3k break job or $3k in tires, be my guest.

Real money on your truck at the auction is around 30-31k assuming it is 4wd,clean Carfax and in good shape
depending on the buyer. I think the wheels help but if not take them off and sell them and put the stock
ones back on. Keep in mind you will save tax on your vehicle in most states not sure about yours.
In pa at 6% that would be $1800 so you would have to sell it for around 32k to get the same value as trading
    it.
    Good luck

was this the honda dealership or toyota dealership? You can privately sell a '17 OR fully loaded 4x4 for MUCH MUCH more than 27k right now. Easily 30k+

Watched one sell off craigslist in my area that only had tech package for 30k, I'm sure premium package would add at least $1k to it.

    1) It's new and under warranty
    2) Maintenance is included
    3) My mustang and my stinger each have pricey tires but they're worth it.

I still haven't made up my mind yet. This afternoon's test drive will tell.
