Old enough to remember when this song appeared on the charts....

Pre internet, anybody remember when Miss America Vanessa Williams was "exposed" in Penthouse mag during her reign? That was a much discussed spread when it hit the newsstand. I do like her though, and she rebounded and succeeded in spite of (because of?) that event....63202155_1_x.jpg

Before my time, but the House Un-American activities committee hearing we're live on TV in the 50's

    Watergate hearings, live everyday.

Iran Contra hearings live everyday, remember Oliver North?

Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination hearings...Anita Hill...live everyday

People had more interest in these matters....you know before YouTube stupid cat videos captured people's attention.....wtf!

I don't remember what Oliver North did but I do remember he was on tv quite awhile. Think I will google it. I do remember the Clarence Thomas ordeal.

And anybody remember watching the OJ trial everyday.....and the LA riots after the Rodney King trial...

Anybody else glued to the TV when the first Gulf War was going on? Saddam Hussein and the "Mother of all wars"....watching video of those missels hitting their targets..really fascinating.

And my own distrubing memories about Sept 11th. My wife worked midtown and was stuck in the city. I was at work and didn't know what was really happening...picked my two young sons up from aftercare and brought them to the park, cooked them dinner and put them to bed without any mention of what happened. After they were asleep I went downstairs and turned on the TV....stayed up all night watching that.......

I remember the North Hollywood shootout as well. The 90's was a wild time for TV.

    Here are two more memories...

David Berkowitz, the .44 caliber killer....Son of Sam....kept everyone on edge while he was loose
    desktop-1432135712.jpg

And Bernie Goetz....NYC was so decrepit...like a rusting bridge you just knew was going to collapse at any moment.....that event happened right around the time things started to change for the better. NYC really turned around and now feels pretty safe for such a large city, imo.
