And it will work fine, It’s not going to hurt your engine to run a slightly thicker oil

Nothing wrong with asking, but I too believe the "ticky" sound you're reporting is due to the DI cycle. My last car was DI only and it ALWAYS ticked even with 5w30/5w40.

OP don't take this the wrong way but I doubt you know more about lubrication than the engineers who designed this engine. There are several threads already where guys are over 100K miles with no problems. There are several threads showing oil analysis after different mileages that show no abnormal wear using 0W-20.
Also, I have never heard of a failure just because of its brand name. Pick whatever you want, as long as it is a name brand with the proper viscosity.

Tolerances are getting much much more precise as material compositions are getting much more refined. You can't compare an 80s motor build with those of today. Most now demand a low viscosity synthetic from the get-go. Don't skimp and don't overthink it. It will pay off down the road.

EDIT: I came from the land of SD oils and the 10W40 and 20W50, so it's an adaptation I have had to make. But my 2001 Honda with 200K, still running beautifully and the insides still look in the early 30-40K stage (I have pictures from when I had to pull a head). It has had oil changes 6mo/6K with recommended viscosity.

Toyota spends a lot of money to design/develop and engine. That includes a good bit of oil testing. Toyota doesn't provide oil specifications that will reduce the life of your engine.

Just use what's in the manual and all will be well.

So true.... usually the only "enhancement" you can make on this is to change the oil/filter frequency based on your own knowledge of your driving habits.
The best advice is if you are a short distance driver, your oil is rarely getting up to temperature to burn off the impurities. So, go take a 30 minute highway run to help once in a while. Your vehicle will love you for it.

I use 0W and I just make sure to change it every 1,823 miles... the tick still seems to be there, but I feel this is adequate.

0W-20 is what i'll use for the life of the vehicle, I'd trust Toyotas engineers more than any master keyboard mechanic

But, They're self certified... can Toyota say that? I think NOT! Besides, who are you going to call when your keyboard needs work? That's right... a keyboard mechanic. Look for the union label.

I use straight extra virgin olive oil. I find that it is much healthier and better for the environment.

I am going to try 5-20 Amsoil next time. Moved to FLA so little to worry about for cold temp start ups. Manual says it is OK and therefore no warranty issues.

If they let you go 10,000 miles (oil change interval) then there can be nothing wrong with using 5-20. I would guess the statement about returning to 0-20 is just PR.

Because people know more than the engineers. They think.
