What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Nice, I literally needed less than 1/4 inch of room on the tip of the corner.

 

Switched my over-priced insurance to the force.

 

I replaced the clock spring and volume/channel/mode steering controls and added the phone controls with it (while I had the steering wheel dismantled... why not)





The steering controls would work intermittently and would illuminate only after I turned the wheel about 30*

45,000 miles. Buying new tires was an agonizing experience. But thanks to the discussions and advice in numerous TW threads I gave up and went with Goodyear Wrangler AT LT245/75R16 to replace the OEM Dunlop AT20 Gran Trek P245's. The thread "Stock Tacoma Off Road Capabilities" got me started. I have a stock plain SR 4X4 and the OEM tires have taken me through all sorts of trouble. I do trail building, so getting close to a work site on an old log road is part of the adventure. Some of my friends with bigger, "badder" 4X4s were standing by to help and were a bit impressed that a basic
Taco could handle pretty tough situations. Never got stuck. So between about 30 percent gravel/ ruts and mud roads and the rest highway driving, the compromise was to get decent traction and keep road noise to a minimum. Hence the LT Goodyear Wrangler AT. Probably could get another 2,000 miles on the OEM, but with winter coming . . .New Shoes

US Offroad has an offering I'd highly recommend. Replaces the whole middle section like the SOS but isn't such a big piece of metal. Has rather stout recovery points as well. (although I learned later on that a snatch in reverse can be like super bad for your truck )

 

I accept you Sasquach-Taco alliance. May our taco eating Sasquatches never fight again.

Yea the only thing I don't like on that one is how exposed the winch is, we've got a lot of rain, mud and bugs here in the southeast lol (though it probably doesn't matter). I really like the look of the Southern Style Offroad the most but SOS is local-ish so I don't have to worry about shipping

And I need to know more about what happened with your reverse snatching...

Back to Paraguay today, after spending october in my native province in Belgium.

The first thing I did = start my Tacoma and give her a drive !!!

 

US Offroad is based out of Texas. Shipping to UT was quite reasonable (75ish). Should be about the same to GA. I get what you are saying about the exposed winch. I figure it makes it easier to declutch and see the coil wraps, but it does open it to the elements.

Nothing happened, but apparently it can majorly mess up your tranny and diffs.

 

Replaced my tie rods with a greaseable one,the old ones started to go after 130000miles.

 

Battery change. Kinda bummed that I only got 28k miles and 3.5 years out of the original

 

Anyone have a rail system or other kind of something to connect hooks onto your tailgate? I have a cargo net and the hooks insert into the rail, but don't hook onto anything at the tailgate. Not really a necessity, just looking to see if I can find some easy add-on I like.
