So like the title says, my spare key was stolen during a home burglury. I called my local dealership and they said that they have two options.

Option #1 - For $700 they can reprogram my current chip and give me a new key. The old key will still be able to u lock the locks but won’t be able to start the car.

Option #2 - For $1700 they can relics the whole truck and two new keys/program.

I’m thinking about Option #1 and getting an aftermarket alarm system. What do y’all think?

Do y’all know if I have any other options regarding the reprogram or relock other then the dealership?

    Oiy, that sucks.
Check with your home insurance if you have it.
They covered the re-keying of our Subaru when the same thing happened to us.

    Hire Liam Neeson.
He has a very particular set of skills. Skills he has acquired over a very long career. Skills that make him a nightmare for people like the burglar. He will look for him, he will find him, and he will kill him. Oh, and he will get your key back too.

Or just go through your insurance.
    Your call.

    Inform your insurance.
They didn't want anything of value in the house.

But they did want the keys to your Taco, food for thought.
So its only a matter of time before the truck goes missing from the driveway,...no alarms,..no problems.

You may also want to invest in a geo tracker in the short term.
So when the truck goes missing, just call the cops and let them know where the truck is.
    Including the thief!

#1) If you have insurance, use it. They should cover “making you whole again.”

If you don’t... a good question here is if you have an ignition key (H) or a push button (lasercut)

    1) (H Key) - a locksmith can do this cheaper than a dealer. Basically rekey everything and reprogram your remotes (it is actually separate from the key). Make sure they clear the keys in the system first.

    2) (lasercut) - the Dealer is your only source.
2A) They can reprogram to delete all but the fobs you physically have and any new ones. The thief will then only have access via the key to the vehicle (if they think to use it). It won’t power because the fob is deprogrammed.
2B) They can re-key the vehicle (I think it is only two locks - door/tailgate) and reprogram to delete all but the fobs you physically have and any new ones. You will need new keys for any fobs you still hold. The thief holds useless keys.
