Show off your CAT Scale Results

I thought I would share my CAT scale weights from last Friday. Unfortunately since it was a Friday and big rig traffic was extremely busy at this scale site, I was only able to go over the scales once instead of the recommended 3 times.

I found I was over on my drive axle GAWR by 110 pounds. I did have quite a bit of extra weight in the bed of the truck this trip that would account for at least an additional 200 pounds even with my canopy on.

One thing about the Towing Bible sticky on this site is that I believe it skips a very important weight to be under and that is the TV GVWR and the TV Front / Rear GAWR. These figures are just as important as the TV GCWR and Hitch GTWT. My next trip I will try to get in all 3 weigh-ins completed.

Anyways, I would love to see the results of others towing with their Tacoma's that have a proper weigh (steer, drive and trailer axle) completed.

Actually forgot to include what I was towing. This was a Jayco x17z.

 

Didnt use a CAT scale but i did use our Fairbanks Certified truck scale here at work. 3880 lbs, driver off and 1/4 tank of fuel.

 

Picked this up last year. 2016 Winnebago 2106DS Micro Minnie. 22' - 3,700 lbs. dry. Pulls nice.

Here is my CAT Scale Results ready to go camping for a week in the Poconos. Fresh and Grey tanks were empty. 5 gal. in black tank. Tongue weight of 600 lbs. was actually measured under the tongue jack.

 

Great thread, very useful to see real numbers for these smaller trucks. I just bought the exact same trailer (but 2018) for my Tacoma and have not yet picked it up. I was honestly thinking I purchased too big after running all the weights at home, was very relieved to see your post.
What weight distribution hitch do you have and what size bars do you use? (am thinking of Blue Ox SwayPro with 750# bars)
Was your tongue weight measured by disconnecting the trailer and putting only the jack on the scale....am I understanding that right?
I estimated carrying much more weight, would be very happy if I could keep my numbers as low as yours. Are you doing anything extraordinary to keep your weight there when fully packed for a trip? (aside from no water)
Are you happy with your setup and with how it pulls? You have a very nice rig!

You are on the right track, I use a Blue Ox SwayPro with 750# bars with 1 1/2 links showing, pulls very well. I have no sway and it transfers weight back onto the front axle well (front wheel well within 1/2" of no load height). Height measured at the front and back corner of the trailer shows it's almost level (1/2" low on the front). I have also installed Firestone Ride-Rites and run those at 17# when towing. The Ride-Rites take all the porpoising out of the setup when we hit a bump in the road. Our 3 cats that ride on the rear seat deck complain if we porpoise at all. Overall I'm very happy with this setup.

I use a Sherline 1000# Trailer Tongue Weight Scale to measure tongue weight.

I don't do anything special to control the overall weight of the trailer. We don't have kids at home so it's just my wife, me and the 3 cats, so we don't take a lot of extras with us. I will move things around in the trailer if my tongue weight gets over 600#.

Uncanny how us Tacoma owners think alike sometimes! I have the Firestone bags also with onboard air compressor, ordered the SwayPro with 750 bars today. As far as packed weight is concerned, our kids are also pretty much gone so just my wife and I and two fewer cats. I will have a look at the sites you linked me to, this is all very informative and reassuring, thank you!

 

I assume you ordered your Swaypro with the standard 7 hole draw bar, for reference, I have my hitch ball set in the the last 2 holes, lowest height setting. Though I don't know if the ride height of both your truck or trailer are the same as mine. Also, I use a Tekonsha P3 trailer brake controller.

 

Could you please post a pic of your shank and ball arrangement? I ordered the 5-hole shank, can change the order. My hitch height is 19.5 inches to the top of the opening. Thanks again!

 

Here you go. My trailer tongue is stock height. If you ordered the off-road package your trailer tongue will be higher, so a 5 hole may be fine.

 

I do have the off-road package, top of hitch sits at 24".

 

I do have the off-road package and my hitch sits at 24" off ground when trailer leveled to ground.
I got part number from SwayPro's site and was sure it was for a 5-hole shank but hitch came today with a 7-hole.
Instructions do not show a 5- hole so maybe it is discontinued.
I like how you store your hitch!

 

The top of my coupler is 19 3/4" when level.

I use the bolt on receiver on the rear bumper on the trailer to hold my hitch when the trailer is parked at home. My truck is parked beside it so I don't need to carry the hitch very far when it is time to hook up. Those Swaypros are heavy. I also have a bracket on the tongue to hold the hitch after we get set up at a campsite to keep it close for when we hook back up to leave. I have a drawstring cover to put over it to keep the weather off. Over the Winter I store the hitch in the passthrough.

I never weighed with my old truck, those always considered it.
Probably should with my Tacoma when I get the trailer hooked up.
How does the actual mechanics of weighing work?
Is the scale just for one axle and you stop for each axle?
Just curious how that works.
