Kbb.com says your trade in is worth $27,500 to $29,500. So this transaction will cost you the $2-3K you’re upside down plus maybe $8K value difference.

I hope the above illustrates what a bad idea this is unless you have a bunch of cash you don't know what to do with.

Well I just play it by ear. It doesn’t hurt to go in and get a few number but if I start getting another headache I’m out

If you are dead set on 4x4, try looking at a SR5 to offset the cost.

It’s just little convenience features you’ll be missing out on, nothing major

Why new? try and find used and replace
with something comparable. I would look for like a 2017. Take your time or at least think this out. If you rush to go after something
on impulse, it will cost you and you will probably regret it and be an expensive lesson (your stuck) the 4x4 won’t even get you out
    of that dept trap rut.
Remember, the dealers are on the lookout
for these kind of situations. Their main mission is maximum extraction of cash
profits on emotions. They also prey on
    confusion.

If you can pay off the loan in full come next year then why not wait till then and just pay cash?

Do people other than dumb 18 year old kids actually buy vehicles at 9% interest? Financing at anything over 4-5% is a terrible idea.

if you can go in and talk them down on a new 4x4 using our threads to get an idea on what is possible then talk them up on your trade in I'd say go for it.

I wouldn't worry about the difference between what the two trucks go for new, because even if you went 4x4 originally you'd still be paying that.

the only number I'd worry about is what I'm losing, and if in 12k miles you lost 2k that's not bad, It hurts, but it's not bad. 6k lost over 12000 miles I'd run though.

Honestly there are too many variable and factors going in to this. You wil pay more than you are now due to negative equity and having to roll it into the new loan or pay cash upfront for it as well as financing a more expensive truck that is current. Go there and see it.

Keep the truck and deal with the 4X2, use this as a lesson to think over your next purchases thoroughly before you start tossing a bunch of $$ around.

Buy a beater 4x4 if you really need it, sounds like it will be way cheaper in the long run.
