Oil filter housing replacement....

Since lots of owners have replaced their oil filter housing with an aluminum one.... Has anyone ever had an issue with a dealership, regarding warranty? Even though, the replacement part is made by Toyota.... any problems with first two oil changes that Toyota includes?

 

I've seen a post some time ago where the owner went to dealer to change the oil with a metal housing and came back with the plastic one.

 

So a Toyota Tech. actually replaced it with an OEM plastic one? That’s interesting....

Yes, but the website doesn't show what aftermarket spin-on filter to use after you install the adapter. I'm assuming they recommend a spin-on that would be equivalent to the

Will the use of a spin-on adapter have clearance issues with a skid plate?

 

It may have clearance issues since it roughly adds 1.5” plus the length of the filter.

 

Actually the WIX 51348 works better. It is a bit shorter and gives more room between the skid plate.

 

No there is plenty of room especially with the WIX filter.

 

I've done about 4 oil changes in this truck. I don't really see the need to change the filter housing to metal. The original is fine as is.

I can see the desire to change to a spin on filter. It's a little more convenient. That being said, the cartridge filter creates less wasted resources, so I'll stick with that.

 

I really didn't see a need to change to the metal housing either, I did however buy another plastic one. I swap them each change so the extra is already clean, dry, and ready to install.

 

The reason I changed mine to metal was because I let the dealer do an oil change and they tightened it so much that when I did the next one I broke the tabs off trying to remove it.

 

Changing that part out legally shouldn't create an issue with the warranty unless Toyota can prove that it was the cause of the damage to your vehicle.
