my mechanic, a very well known guy out here in DFW for the Toyota trucks, has a 2nd gen AT OR all built up with 33's and stuff. my truck has a MT, OV tune, and a custom exhaust. he tells me to keep my truck away from him because he swears it's making him want one. he has the biggest smile when he's driving mine. he's keeping his 2nd gen for now cus he's too attached to it. but he's a huge fan of my trucks powertrain when it's tuned up. there's a lot in the 2GR-FKS if you can figure how to unleash it.

Totally agree with this comment! I have driven all generation Tacoma's and by far the 3rd gen is my very favorite! Toyota continue to improve this trucks and there is a reason why they hold their value very well. I have a TRD Sport 2018 and no regrets whatsoever, TOTALLY LOVE IT!!! If you wait for a decision to make whether to keep or move on etc, good luck. The 3rd, 4th, 5th gen will pass you by. That's how GREAT this Tacoma's are!!!

    Me too.

The first 10 years/ 100k are the break in period, modding/ upgrading as parts wear out..checking Craigslist for good deals....easing into the pushing the limits phase.

    That's the plan at least....

LOL, seems crazy. But, I don't drive it every day. When I do drive it I can cover some ground!

so nice and clean in the beginning and i'll enjoy it. around 70-80k things change and that's why i had the rat reputation on the VW forums for my last car. in a few years the sawzall's coming out and then we'll seen who she wants to be.

Keep the truck. The third gen is the lesser truck in my opinion.

All depends on you and how much your eyes are going wander. Personally I have a 6 month rule. If I think about trading it for 6 months pretty steadily I do it. That being said I sold my similar second gen (07 MT AC OR with mods) for the exact reason you're saying.
I love the new 3rd gen just as much as my old one honestly. If you like the manuals you will really love the new ones its like butter ... just something is very nice about it. Don't listen to anyone with an auto about power. I rip my 6 speed AC cab around and I think its very quick. However sometimes I think about the money I would be saving with no payment and I would have probably been able to dampen the interior and mod whatever else.

Do what you think is best for you. What others think is irrelevant to your situation.

Keep in mind, higher cost for insurance, car note, etc. Your Tacoma still has a great
re-sell price, but the new ones can get pricey.

Remember, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

No take backs once it is gone.

The six month rule. That makes so much sense. I think I've unknowingly followed that logic. For the tacoma I am somewhere between month 4 and 5.. Hmmm...

I switched from a 2013 to a 2018. It took three test drives, but the third truck drove without the issues I didn't like in the first two. I have zero regrets, it's a better truck in every way except initial acceleration from a dead stop and the interior feels smaller. Sometimes you just want something new, nothing wrong with that if it's financially feasible.

I sold my '05 because the frame was rusted, just not rusted enough. Your truck looks good and has low miles but the frame rust would always be in the back of my mind.

Third gen MT is fantastic - especially after tuning and getting some more low end power. The interior is a huge step up in terms of comfort and technology.

I say keep it as well, your truck looks great ! You definitely use it.
But with only 41,000 miles on it you will get a good price for it if you do decide to sell, So not that much difference to pay for a new truck.
