I have had both and found that the Weather Techs are thicker than the AVS and hold up longer.

There is also a $5 ARRL practice test app that generates tests from all of the possible questions. I'm still relatively new to the hobby, but I'm already having a lot of fun and learning a lot as well. I wan't to put a mobile unit in my truck and have plans for VHF/UHF installs in the house soon. I was talking to a member on here who's in California today and I'm in Texas!

Thats sweet! I have been interested in the science/math part of it as well which is why I went ARRL handbook. I plan to set up a small home base in my office and tinker around with it then in the event (prepper mentality incoming) something happens to cell service I can at least talk home to the wife. Also want it as a backup to cell service while driving. My brother just moved out to Wyoming and informed me there is a 30 min window on the drive to his new place where there is zero cell service. When I go visit him I am going to want something as backup in the event of an emergency or breakdown.

Consider yourself pretty lucky then. I don't think most get that much out of them. I got 3 and thought that was great.
