Switch Pros 9100 install and BS thread

Alright friends I’ve got a few questions, I don’t have my SP yet so my apologies if any of them are listed there.

1) has anyone on here wired both an ARB compressor AND air locker to their SP?

2) can I eliminate my existing relays on my light bar and pod harnesses and wire straight from accessories to SP?

3) I’m a little confused as to why everyone seems to add a blue sea fuse block with the SP since it has amperage limits to each switch, can anyone explain the reasoning/necessity for them?

1) I've only wired the twin arb compressor, but you can definitely wire them both. The switch pro comes with a master switch seeing that allows you to press the locker switch and it will turn on the compressor for you.

2) Yes, all you need is power and ground, save yourself the weight from all those harnesses.

3) The blue sea panels are for other accessories that need power, but don't need to be controlled by the switch pro, say seat heaters for example. Just to clean up all other accessory wiring.

Figure out your entire load from the battery and plan accordingly. Blue Sea has a handy app that helps you determine correct wire size. Based on the information you gave and assuming a worst case scenario of continuously running a 20 amp fused load in each (10) holder for a total of 200A you should run a separate 0 cable from the battery to the fuse panel. So figure out what you are hooking up to that fuse panel so you can plan accordingly.

Hello everyone/ I understand I don't have a third gen, but I assume the process would be the same. I am hoping to install my switch pro on Friday this week and want to make sure I understand everything. I have questions regarding two items I am installing.

The first item I am installing is 2 (EA) Baja Designs Squandron Pros in my rear bumper. What I want to do is be able to turn these lights on via the Switch Pro, but also they will turn on when I put the vehicle into reviers.

So here is my question related to this? For the wiring itself, I am going to run the squadron pro to the Switch pro Unit. Do I also need to run an additional wire from the Squadron pro to the tail light reverse wire? I am confused on what Switch Pro is considering a "trigger wire" and if I understand correctly, if I install one of the trigger wires to my reverse fuse (was looking at Post #56), would I still need to run a wire to my reverse light wiring in my tail light? This is newb stuff for me, and want to make sure I am doing this correctly.

The second item I am installed are 4 (EA) Baja Designs Rock Lights. The overall goal is to tie these rock lights into the truck so I can turn them on/off with the switch pro, but also to have them wired, so the rock lights will turn on when I unlock/lock/ or open my doors. I am assuming that this again is another "trigger Wire", but not sure if I need to run a wire up to my dome light as well? I purchased a dome light module (version 1) and have not wired it yet. But, based on additional research, I am not sure if I need this with the "trigger wire" that Switch Pro mentions:

No. What the trigger wire does is sense when a non-switch pro circuit turns on (like your reverse lights), then you program which of the 8 switches on the SP turns on. So you don't need to also wire your Squardron's into your reverse light circuit. The SP watches that circuit and turns on and off stuff when you want based on another circuit.

Same thing as the reverse lights, put a trigger wire on the dome light circuit, and the rock lights, connected only to the SP, will turn on when that circuit turns on.

But... the switch pro has only 2 trigger wires, and one of them is default programmed to connect to a circuit to dim the switch pro (like a headlight). So, what you'll have to do is reprogram that wire (I think it's the light blue on on the 9100, but not 100% sure) to act like a trigger, and not function as a dimming option. If you want two trigger wires, then you lose the ability to dim the switch pro switch plate, but that might not be a big deal. Just set it to a brightness that works for you in the dark, and it'll always be that illuminated.

I think there is a way to wire both of these options using diodes so that their triggering with either reverse or dome lights happens outside the switch pro. But the advantage of the SP is that it has the trigger wires and it's much easier wiring using them.

 

This helps tremendously! I was always assuming i would tap into my reverse light wiring, but after looking more into the trigger wire, it seems that the switch pro technically does this for me. When I sent an email into Switch Pro about the reverse wiring, this is what they told me:

"To trigger you reverse lights, you would assign a circuit and switch to the pods. You would then also tap into the reverse signal with the Pink wire. In the app, you would establish an external trigger circuit (see wiring diagram for specific wire color) and the. Designate whether the trigger is looking for an active high or active low signal (this will depend on if your reverse signal is positive or ground). You will also need to “toggle” this capability on by pressing the tiny push button on the touch panel (located behind the switch-pros logo) and switch #7. You toggle the capability off but repeating this action. "

I need to look at the touch panel to see what they are talking about as well as the high/lo feature.

I am going to send an email to them and see if I can program multiple trigger wires as you have mentioned. It's not the end of the world for me if I cannot adjust the brightness, as my plan is to have the switch pro mounted in my sunglass holder.

The best upgrade and money I’ve spent on the new truck so far. Built my own wiring harnesses for everything and it’s all just so clean and perfect compared to my last truck.
I’ve since cleaned up some wires from these photos, and added the correct terminal strip to the power tray.

My question is what blue sea breaker and amperage is everyone using from the 12+ to the switch pro from the battery? I want to do away with the inline fuse so I can shut off the switch pro and all added circuits entirely to trouble shoot if I need to.

Also I love how you can setup things in app like wether or not things will work off the battery or the ignition.

Received a response from SwitchPro and your information above was correct! This is the response I received from Switch Pro:

"If the signal is in the fuse box, you can use a fuse tap. Otherwise you can also tap the wire itself.

You can also program both triggers in the app to be active high or active low.
Active high triggers above 5V. Active low triggers below 0.5V.
Its always best to measure the voltage with a voltmeter so you know what the vehicle is doing.

Trigger 2, if activated, will replace the backlighting dimming.

Without the trigger 2, backlighting is 70% when the light blue ignition wire senses 12V.
When the White wire senses 12V, the backlighting dims to the set level."

With trigger 2 enabled, backlighting goes to the adjusted level when the light blue ignition wire senses 12V. It can be easily adjusted by pressing the program switch behind the switch-pro logo 3 times. See page 11, bottom.

I gotta ask. How are you labeling the heat shrink tube? That's awesome!

 

They make a label machine that prints onto heat shrink tubing. Pretty awesome we use it at work.

 

So far so good that fuse box lid in tight

 

1) Has anyone else had problems with water mounting the SP horizontal? It seems like most people go that route and I have only seen 1 person with corrosion problems from mounting horizontal even though the company says not to.

2) I read no wiring winches to it in the manual but saw a few people had done so- guessing that’s a bad idea?

3) It’s programmed as an on/off switch so I should be able to wire an anytime camera to it easily correct? Has anyone done this?

 

Can’t answer your question about the winch but I have mine mounted horizontal. I’ve had it that way for about a month now. Saturday I was under the hood re-wiring a few things and I did notice what looked like a little spot of discolored water/corrosion on the module right around the 12+ connection from the battery. I cleaned it off and I’m going to keep a close eye on that. I was starting to think some water was laying in my hood scoop and when I opened the hood some time before it ran back and dripped right over it. But not for sure.

As far as the backup camera, yes! You can wire it to the switchpro just like any other switch. You’ll need the little diode thing a gentleman sells on here to install behind the radio if you’re trying to run the anytime backup camera mod if you don’t have it already.
I haven’t done this but it can be done easily. I had a 2016 with that and I never needed it much so I didn’t add it to my 17 build.

(Edit) I’m thinking about adding some washers between the rear two mounting bolts between the switch pro module and the power tray a lot of us use just Incase any water does get on it it won’t lay and will run off. The switch pro module is kind of cup shaped slightly.
If you zoom in on my photo under the 12+ to the module you can kind of see the cloudy stain.
