Need speaker advice

2010 Double Cab non-JBL, stock head unit

I want to upgrade the speakers on my truck but do not know where to begin. I am focused mainly on sound quality and do not listen to much bass-heavy music. I would like to keep the stock head unit and am looking for speakers that can be adequately driven by the stock unit.

Cost should stay below $1000. I would like to include enough in that budget to sound deaden the doors at the same time. I am looking for something that I can install without being a car audio expert. I also want to locate the new speakers in stock locations, so no custom kick panels or tweeter mounts.

 

I have infinty speakers in my truck.
Reference Components up front and Kappa series in the rear. They are very crisp and i have them powered by an external amp now, ever more clear.

What sizes can I fit? Should I go with the biggest possible in both the front and back doors? Does the factory system have components up front?

 

Alpine PDX 4 channel
Alpine Type-R 6.5" components in the front
Alpine Type-R 6.5" coax's in the rear

You will need to adapters for the front and rear speakers and line out converters for the factory radio integration to the amp.

 

Ideally, I just want to swap speakers, and not have to go through the hassle of installing an amp (fishing power, mounting it, dealing with line-level outs from factory deck). Is it futile to expect a big SQ improvement by just swapping speakers?

 

I'm all for Alpine! I have Alpine type-S speakers in my truck and love them!

 

Specifically, I was looking at getting Focal 6x9s in the front (690CVX) and Focal Coaxials in the back (165CVX), two door kits (Dynamat, or similar) and the ********* installation kit with wiring harnesses and plates. All this would run about $1000.

The Focals are rated 2-80W RMS and 2-70W RMS. I should mention the 93db/watt sensitivity. These are efficient speakers, so I think I can run them without an amp, but I could be wrong.

I will look at the Alpine and Infinity speakers, thanks for the advice. What I would like to know is whether or not it is a waste to put in high quality speakers to be driven by the stock deck without an aftermarket amp. I don't turn the volume up *that* loud.

 

Do not waste your money with the Focal running off of the factory deck. They will play but nowhere near their full potential. They NEED an amp. If you do not want to install an amp I would suggest getting some basic Pioneer 2 ways and save yourself a lot of money.

 

Well, I just looked up some basic pioneer 2-ways (TS-D6902R) and they are only ~$75 bucks less than the Focals on Amazon (175 vs. 250) and they have the same power rating (2-80W RMS) but are less efficient (90db/W vs 93db/W). Would those *really* sound better or the same as the Focals?

I was thinking about getting the Focals and trying them out with just factory power and then if I needed an amp, possibly adding one later.

 

That's why I started my search for really efficient speakers, rather than ones that needed a lot of power to be driven.

Im sorta in your same predicament. '06 DBL Cab non-JBL stock HU. I've seeemed to narrow it down to Image Dynamics 6.5" components up front pushin 150 watts rms @ 2 ohm, and 6.5 Kicker CompVt @ 2 ohm as well. Just tryin to decide what amp to power these with. If I go with an amp I think it will be the JL XD600/6 to give me a little flexibility down the road when I want to add a sub.

 

FYI, I figured out al-eds.com will match prices from *anyone* even non-authorized dealers, so I can get my focals for 60% off and still keep the warranty

 

buy some 6.5 polk audio dbs component speakers for the front doors and some 6.5 dbs coaxial speakers for the back doors and a 4 channel great speakers sound crisp

 

get an amp. don't be cheap.

 

just bought some focal speakers and there awesome . my brother has alpine and i would buy focal over it any day. got mine for $300 a pair but some are up to $1200 a pair. with 3 year warranty also

just make sure the head unit puts out 60 watts RMS.

 

agreed. i personally buy speakers from companies that specialize in speakers and wouldn't consider any alpine speakers.
