Seems like you’ve prepared well enough! In that case I’d say go for it! I would’ve gotten myself a Pro if I would’ve saved a little more. But I’m equally as happy with my 2016 TRD OR, I have more money to mod! Haha.

I read his post as argueing to fix a truck with 220K+ miles vs getting a new truck that he wants. Peace of mind is a real thing.

I didn’t consider peace of mind while reading it, I read it mostly as which choice would be better financially.

Differing perspectives are most definitely real as well!

Try reading it from his perspective. Anyone considering a pro most likely researched the cost. At this point. He wants feedback on those that own them not a consolation choice (offroad/sport).

I've had 6 Toyota pick-ups in the last 30 years, and now have a 18 TRD Pro MT (I'm a geoarchaeologist). I do really like it, especially off-road. Yesterday I was off-road up at Mt Taylor (NW NM) on washboard fire roads, and steep climbs over rock and snow in low range. It performed flawlessly, and yes as good as my 2nd Gens despite what you'll hear on TW. It was built July 27, 2018 and doesn't have the stumbling problems many complain about here. The Fox suspension smooths out the washboards better than any stock suspension I've had including the Baja suspension, and the articulation was good and functioned well.

However, if you are not going to do rock crawling then a TRD OR might be just as good for you.

It’s one of those things where the truck is getting old and I just want to get a new one before something major breaks. I work 50+ Hours a week with two kiddos and as of right now I can’t take them anywhere in my truck. I do plan on doing some off roading and camping. My son I getting old enough were we can go do guys things. I just wanted to know what Pro owners have to say. I have done 2 months of research/watching YouTube to see that the pro is an all I one deal and I’m willing to pay the price to get the best. So hopefully by the end of the month I will have some pic to show.

2 kids man I think a 4Runner would really suit you better. Unless you absolutely use your truck bed, I’d check out the room the 4Runners have as well. My Ex had a 2017 T4R Pro and it was pretty sweet.

Just my 2 cents if you want it!

    Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m a Tacoma guy all the way. I’m the only one that works, so I just want a vehicle that if I need to take the kids I can. This way I don’t have to just rely on my wife car.

You can’t buy a Pro for anywhere near MSRP around here. 10k over is where they start on Cavalry and Voodoo. 6k over on the white ones. Get the Pro. You won’t regret it.

That’s so ridiculous though. Here in Oregon I can find them at msrp all day.

I'll elaborate a bit on things others have mentioned, and add some of my own.

    1. Resale. Assuming you don't pay the ridiculous markup, resale on a Pro is even higher than the already crazy high (IMO) prices of used Tacos.

    2. Performance. I'll say it. The Pro isn't really, any better at crawling than the Off-Road (excepting that it has a better front skid). But! It's way better at speed and on the street. Bypass shocks are the stuff you'll see on go-fast offroaders, not so much on crawlers. They let you have a fairly plush ride at ride height, and then stiffen up when the suspension travels (position sensitive damping). I found the factory TRD off-road suspension to lean too much in corners, dive too much under braking. The TRD pro suspension, for what it is, is tough to beat. Don't listen to posts that suggest a clicky adjuster wheel on a reservoir makes a shock better than the internal bypass units on the Pro. They're fantastic. There are a few companies (Bilstein, OME) that offer direct fit internal bypass shocks for Tacomas. I think they all have fewer bypass zones, and almost certainly haven't undergone the level of testing by Toyota to get the shocks/springs/vehicle weight etc to all work together. They might be better, they might be worse. I'm not aware of any direct comparison between those options. The exhaust sounds decent, but likely does nothing for performance.

    3. Appearance. IMO, the subtle changes on the Pro make the truck. Of course, most of these are available aftermarket.

    4. Upgradeability / utility. Because the Pro suspension is position sensitive, it isn't really suitable for lifting (without relocating the shocks to match). Likewise, if you regularly carry heavy loads, it's probably not the most ideal (you could install stiffer springs, but the shock valving was intended to match the stock spring rates). It'll still carry the same loads as the others, but depending on how much it sags under the weight, the shocks will have firmer damping than at ride height.

I bought a Pro because I knew I'd be happy with stock ride height, appreciate well-tuned suspension, paid ~$4k more than I could get an Off-Road + leather for, and knew I'd be spending about that to get the suspension to where I'd be happy with it - before any appearance modifications, and while still having a lower resale value.

Then when I purchased mine I would have disagreed with you 101% however now the market has changed so much I will have to agree with the "save money" part as long as you do not plan to "add" a lot to it. this opinion came to me from when I went to a Dealer with 5k miles on truck and a Sales man offered a Exchange right out the gate a Black on Black 2019 Trd Pro for my 2018 Super White Trd Pro with all the same options no extra cost on my end ..... I asked him why? after I turned down that offer and he told me that the 2018 White Trd pros are selling for more than the 19 Pro blues and blacks ones and he has a buyer who wants the Super White Manual transmission waiting in the wings...... So now I have to agree with you to a point.

Flash in So Cal ought to drive up to Oregon, and drive it back and register it in CA. I did that from Utah back to New Mexico for a 18 Pro. Much better price and no BS.
