White letters in or out on Tires?

Urk. Some of the trucks from that period weren't bad, but most of the cars....

 

I go back and forth. One set, white out. Another set of tires, black out. BUT NEVER BLUE OR RED

 

Depends on the tire. I think Goodyear white letters look like crap along with a few other brands.

That being said I like to do white out if the lettering looks good, otherwise I prefer raised black letters. Flush black letters are lame. Sometimes you can find the tire as a black wall only and one side is raised and other is flush. So raised black letters are my #1 pick.

Exactly. I know he shopped a couple Cherokees and had a soft spot for the Chevy LUV 4x4s. Just never pulled the trigger. The cars were bad, just bad. I had good memories in the Scamp and Cutlass (their only V8 since I came along). I was given the Celebrity. It did the job, but I was always wishing for a Fiero, an S10, or a Subaru.

 

We went the same direction with the rims, though gloss ain't half bad.

Oh god yes, the 2 door Cherokee Chiefs from that vintage are badass. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could find one that wasn't either $10k+ or a rust bucket. Those and the J10/J20's have been on my 'lottery list' for a long time.

Being in PA, it probably wouldn't have lasted, but if it was an MT, I would have keep it. Of course, I made many of similar mistakes. If I was smart, I would have grabbed a 1st Gen back in the day.

After this last round of MegaMillions, I'm out. Even giving up on the what if dreams. I'd rather throw the bills in a fountain.

Nailed it! But, I was living here when the 1st Gens launched. We admired a neighbors extended cab in that cool purpley-blue color.

This place is ridiculously easy on bodies, but a bit hard on drivetrains. My bikes that I used to ride year round had one or two corroded fasteners, ever. We actually need thread lock since we can't count on rust. Haha!

 

Wow, the forum seems divided. Kind of reminds me of the toilet paper being over vs under. Of course, it should be over so I'm glad that debate was finally ended.

Shrug. My '99 spent its entire life in Arizona before I bought it. I had it in Maine for all of 3 years before Toyota bought it back.

 

That not good. The number of 1st Gens on the road here is a bit crazy. Some are still going strong as commercial trucks. The number of 1980s Big3 shitboxes is amazing also, considering. If those made it this long, so will my Taco.

I don't want to sell it but we've got too many vehicles in the yard and it's redundant. Someday I'll find another one, a rust-free example from the midwest, and do a full restoration on it.

I was talking about the familiar. I wouldn't be surprised if my Celeb is still running around here. Someone would have had to do a transmission rebuild though. It was going out when I traded it.

Those 80s Big3 trucks had swagger.

 

Logically, if you are going offroad in the mud and rocks, you’re probably gonna fuck up the white letters if they are out.

If however your are a pavement princess like many of us, then white letters are cool with the right combo.

I like them out, but I grew up with deep dish slotted mags.

In the end, it’s your choice. I provided a couple of nice examples to give you some food for thought.
