When my truck(2002 v6 dc prerunner auto) is at idle and the brake applied and tranny in Drive or reverse. My truck has a Knocking sound coming from the engine or it sounds that way to me. If you put it in park or neutral it stops. When you start to accelerate you can here it but then it goes away. i have searched but can not find an answer. Has anyone else ran in to this? Thanks

Does it sound like engine knock or something vibrating / shaking and knocking against something else?

Well i took it to the dealer and they thought it was the flex plate cracked so they pulled the trans and it wasn't. I had them go ahead and replace the rear main while they were in there. then they thought it was from the timing belt so they replaced that and the water pump. The noise has got alot quiter and does not happen as offten but it is still there. I have also replaced the plugs and put in a new fuel filter. Any other suggestions?

This sounds exactly like what mine is doing; although it's more of a thumping noise. I've had the truck a week and it starts this crap. Any help is greatly appreciated. I wish now I'd bought an old $4k truck since this thing is already needing work.

Just an updated My truck has been in the shop for three weeks got it back today and seems the problem is fixed. They pulled the engine and replaced the main bearings and the oil pump and had the crank checked and polished. He said the the problem was caused from someone overtighting the belts. so it ended up costing 1516.17 to get that done plus when the dealer had it and done the timing belt ,water pump and tensioner trying to fix the noise was 800. so 2300 dollars later I am happy.

How would tightening up belts too tight ruin your crank bearings. Sounds like they just told you that. Glad you got it fixed though.

Sounds like you had a bad oil pump and it just went from there.
