Toyota Frame Rust Recall

Apologies if this has been posted before but this is flippin' awesome.

 

So, I just bought my 2005 DCSB. I called the dealership about the leaf spring recall and they said they’d order the parts and let me know when they’re in. They haven’t seen the truck yet but the frame is rusted pretty bad. Is there any chance I’ll end up with a new frame or am I too late??

 

If you're in the US I believe you have until January 31 2019. If it's really rusty you should make sure there's a 10mm hole somewhere before taking it in. How you do that is up to you. I jabbed at mine with a screwdriver and made a hole just to be sure it failed. Fortunately it didn't take much jabbing. Failed the inspection today, just waiting on approval from Toyota.

 

I crawled under my truck for quite awhile and everything I found rust-wise was just on the surface. Nowhere could I even dream of putting something through it. Unless I but out the drill! Haha

just got my frame replaced. this is what failed me. so you would be surprised what would fail the inspection. rest of my frame was solid as can be!

 

That’s interesting! We’ll see what they say. They’re really dragging their feet on my leaf springs. Seems like it’s taking forever!

 

yeah i was shocked when they said it failed i was like wow!

 

I did the same, I poked around with a hammer and big screw driver, but I could only find surface rust and delamination. I took it to the dealer expecting the CRC treatment (for the second time), within a few hours I got the call that it had failed. I'm pretty sure the dealer I took it to has figured out how to make the frame settlement work for them, as such, they wanted it to fail, so they looked even harder then I did. It doesn't hurt that they know ALL the places to look. My recommendation is to have your truck inspected at a dealership with a stack of rusty frames behind it.

 

one thing i don’t understand is why they said to me oh yeah 41.1 hours. even is on paper... the whole job took one full business day to do. as they started tuesday morning and was done by close of business with the truck parked outside! that’s prob just book time right?

It sounds like it's probably book time, but don't forget that there may have been multiple techs on it.

 

yeah iknow there was 3 tech’s.

 

3 techs spend 72 hours in 24 hours

 

My 06 frame failed Toyota inspection BUT the service followed with a ridiculous possible outcome.

So check this out, Toyota inspection was completed and they confirmed it was covered due to the rusted out holes beyond 4mm. The service rep told me with the frame being completely covered by toyota, I would be responsible for the damaged parts during the service when replacing the frame. He mentioned it can be between 3-4k in part replacement. He also mentioned the last customers had possibly paid 6k in damaged parts. This sounds insane! How am I financially liable for damages during a service that I'm initially going in for because of them. That's like another class action law suit within itself. Am I wrong here?

 

sounds like bs to me... they told me oh i may have to pay for misc bolts and washers that isn’t covered by the recall and could be up to $250.
yeah i didn’t have to pay a dime.

 

This document is from the original Limited Service Campaign (2014), if you have a look at it, it's pretty clear as to what was provided at that time. There may be some changes in the current LSC, but I'd expect them to be largely similar to the last one.

Go somewhere else. Those guys are full of shit.
Find a dealer that has done a lot of frame swaps

 

My frame has been ordered. I want some new leaf springs! He didn't mention that. Should I ask if they come with it as well?

 

Got my letter yesterday. I highly doubt it'll fail but I still plan on taking it to be inspected, you never know I guess.

 

I was thinking the same thing, but not sure if Toyota is tracking my already completed inspection through my VIN. I know when I called they're claim number, they were tracking my last telephonic contact with them in regards to the frame warranty.

 

So? Why would that matter?
