Early pre 67 bug seats are getting harder to find and they changed more than people think. A good number of these seats have broken frames, springs or even better hammer marks on the bottom tubing. The rails are the same and they can be interchanged. 68 and later seats are damn near worthless. The seat rails changed in 1972-73 to a center post rail.

Huh, fascinating. Never realized something like that was worth a damn.

I'd really like to have them but I have generic Nissan ones already too. Something kinda unique about Z cars, being a Flagship they don't have hardly any Nissan or Datsun logos, instead there's a Z from the corresponding generation on everything. Kind like how Land Cruisers have the land cruiser branding on everything instead of the Toyota logo.

The Z has changed every generation...

Pretty much anything from a flagship vehicle from any company is gonna have some value attached to it

IMO they might be one of the hardest cars to restore properly back to as rolled out of the factory condition. If one doesn't care about originality it's easy, but it will be picked apart at any VW show if it's a stock restoration.

IMO the 1967 might be the hardest of 60's bugs to restore. A lot of one year only parts like the front fenders, deck lid, front seats etc.

I say the same thing about machining related stuff. All the good deals are found on the other coast. :annoyed:

I saw some Baja Bugs at Hollister Hills. Pretty cool seeing crazy engines that can't fit in the engine bay sticking out the back.

Always been a Cal Looker kind of a guy. The air-cooled VW scene has many different flavors. They're a wonderful hobby car just make sure to start with a nice one.

You see that's what I'm talking about. I can't find a good old quality drill press for a decent price around here, everyone thinks they're worth more than gold, same for Wilton bullet vises.

I was looking for a Dake or Famco arbor press for a while. 6 ton is too big & heavy for me, I need it to be mobile. I ended up buying an import 3T from my local MSC. But whatever, not something I need to use daily & I doubt it'll break on me.

He's right though, you'd probably have a much better chance at success and learn a lot more if you did it with someone who's in the know already

I'm talking to the guy right now. He said clean title, but it was wrecked a few years ago so it has 3-4 years of backfees. I am waiting on the VIN and plate number to check the DMV's system.

With how much my Civic gained in backfees since 2016, I'm guessing it'll be close to $1,000. My Civic expired in 2016, and it is at $600 in backfees.

I know no one. My friends barely know how to put gas in their car, let alone rebuild an engine.

Not for me. @Sperrunner needs a cab for his frame. I've been searching local CL for a cab or truck like that forever, and that's the first one I've seen with a clean title and a relatively clean cab.
