Maybe I'm crazy but I have seen WAAAAAY too many tailgates for sale,,,,, offer up, Craigslist, online.... WTF!!!

There's noway these are legitimate owners....? I haven't seen any threads on a rash of stolen tailgates in SoCal. I'm frikin worried now!

I've seen another members mod for sale as far as locking the tailgate but I thought I remembered reading it's not a necessity if you lock your tailgate. I always lock mine.

Someone chime in and give me your thoughts please...

I think there was one person on here selling white ones because the truck's tailgate needed to be removed as they were adding snugtops

Would a tailgate with backup camera be harder to steal? I feel like the wiring would slow em down. Maybe I'm wrong, I've never looked at mine closely

Tailgate theft is popular. Especially in the southwest

Lots of thefts, but if they are white, its probably legit since they get removed when commercial caps are installed on service vehicles.

There is a quick connector to unplug. If you look in your glovebox you probably have a plastic cap in a bag, this cap is to cover the connector should you need to remove the tailgate.

For a bit of extra win, install the clamp with the head facing down. You can get a screwdriver up from underneath.

Is locking the tailgate good enough? Or do I still need to do the clamp lock mod?

    The clamp is cheap insurance.

Clamp lock, then lock the tail gate. Back it into your driveway so it's right up against the building/garage door. Install a trail cam facing the truck, then go and stop worrying about your tailgate.

If it gets stolen, it gets stolen. Do what you can to minimize the chances but outside of that.. what happens happens.

Use your truck for construction. Then the gate will be so beat to #$%^ that nobody will want it.

Hoseclamp comes off in a few seconds- break it with a screwdriver.

Just back your truck up into a rubber block on a dock.

Pretty sure it'll be locked forever and no one can steal it.
