I really want one but most I've seen are $2500+

Was that around what y'all have paid?

If you do go shell, definitely get windoors. The utility of the shell goes through the roof with them. Definitely worth the extra coin.

Prices seem to fluctuate somewhat regional. Cheapest I found new in my area was $1500. To get the model and features I wanted put the price to $2k+.

I ended up buying used, but by doing so I had to compromise a little on the exact model and features I originally wanted. It only cost me half the price of a new one so it was a compromise I was willing to make.

never a fan of caps on a pickup.. if i wanted that i'd have bought a SUV.. makes them look like a station wagon.

agreed. not that i dont like toppers, but you lose the biggest difference between a truck and a suv/car.

however!! that also means you can no longer help your "friends" move big furniture. always a plus!

One of the beauties of pick ups. It’s versatility! Can you go go gadget an SUV into a pick up? Nope.

I'm thinking soft topper route if I ever need one.. they're not common around here though so couldn't get used. Also our harsh winters make me think I could only use it half the year.

Do you and your wife go camping a lot? Do you have kids or a dog? The way I convinced mine was by telling her, "The dog can sit in bed when we travel and we can have dry gear, or the gear can sit in the bed and we can have a dry dog. You pick." Of course she doesn't want the dog out, exposed and unsafe in the bed of a truck (and I don't either). So she quickly agreed to the expense of a Softopper. Which is also a good route to go if you want to be able to take it off and on easily. But we go camping quite often and catch all sorts of crazy weather. If you guys don't have kids and plan on having kids soon it would be an easy sell. (Where is all our stuff going to go when it's raining and we have car seats in here?)

I would also show her the inside options. Maybe like a full camp kitchen or something if that's what she's into. Just play it to her likes and interests and it'll be easier. Hard for me to give advice when I don't know either of you two. Good luck! Post back with what the final option is!
